While I certainly can't justify the overly conformist nature of Hardcore punk (or at least what became that overly conformist nature), it is fair to point out that Punk fashion was as much about wearing clothes that no one else would (And therefore both a means of communication within a scene and a means of shock tactic against "sheople"), and a much more subtle art than you may realize.
Of course, you're probably talking about pop-punkers, but I would hope you have the common sense to know that they're just preps with extra eyeshaddow.
What really annoys/amuses me is Classical Music snobs who pass judgement on non classical music as be "Non-artistic" while themselves listening to the least artistic, least creative kind of music (the difference between an artist and an artisan is that an artist produces art from their creative vision and an artisan produces pictures/music/sculptures that people want to see)

CNN and C-SPAN are both worth their weight in gold. Air-headed metrosexuals, bored Senators, irritated special witnesses, long rambling speeches; what's not to love? Especially with such helpful tips as "Terrorists tend not to kill people named 'Zippy'" (<-Real quote. No, really, they said that. No editing on my part at all) coming at you 24 hours a day.
I also like to listen to Juliet Dagger from time to time. If you've never heard of Juliet Dagger, first, thank God, then try to imagine the angst-filled rantings that a preteen girl would scribble in the margins of her notebook set to music. And not very good music either.

Oh my Gawd, I was walking down the street last night to my house after training, I had kicked this dude really hard and he blocked it all terrible-like (bone on bone, no muscle blockage), and my leg started twitching with pain-shots corsing up my nerves into my brain, causing my leg to spasm uncontrolably!
