I want an English School lunch!

I live in the US now, but I was schooled in England for 8 years, lastly at age 14 (am now 25). However, after all these years, I still miss English Hot lunches. I didn't appreciate them enough at the time. I have been to Anglo-themed pubs; I love Fish and Chips, beer, shepards pie, bangers, pasties, scotch eggs, etc. But I miss English school lunches. I want some crabcakes. I want some god damn bonafide English custard on chocolate cake. I want REAL english sausages. And some wonderfully yummy cheesy mushroom quiche.

I am so hungry right now.

Anyhow, are you hungry right now? What food are you fantasizing about? Is there any old food that you can no longer get a hold of that you miss? Are you a fattie? Respond and discuss.

You want pasties? I give you pasties! (http://www.dobberspasties.com/v2/)

What food do I miss? Nutella crepes. If I weren't so damned lazy perhaps I'd figure out how to make them, but sloth conquers all!

They're the same thing. Cornish miners immigrated to Michigan, and bestowed pasties upon us.

You do know that quiche isn´t an English dish? Anyhow. I am in the mood for some paprika chicken or Serbian bean soup. And no. I´m not a fatty. How about you?

Sausages aren't neccesarily English either, but the way they do them IS. Besides. I want quiche from my old school's lunch menu, so its not a debatable topic.

I'm a Seattleite who took a professorate in Bismarck, North Dakota. I miss anything with SOME GODDAMNED SPICES IN IT!!!

Especially Thai food and Cajun food. Specifically, I miss:

Everett, WA
Spice of Thai
Tampico (great Mexican mole sauce)
Alligator Soul
Lombardi's
Scuttlebutt & Flying Pig & McMenamins brew-pubs

Seattle
Cutter's Bayhouse (home of the best martini EVER)
Wild Ginger
The Flying Fish
The New Orleans
Buca di Beppo
Pasta Freska
Dilettante (patisserie extraordinaire)
Broadway Wok & Grill
Porta (Greek...mmmmmmmm...)
Ivar's Captain's Table
Cedar's on Brooklyn (Middle Eastern/Indian)

Tacoma
From the Bayou (weeping with remembered mouthgasms)
Stanley & Seafort's

Greater Puget Sound
Taco Del Mar
Jamba Juice
Kidd Valley
Dick's Drive In

Not that Bismarck is without fine places to eat, namely:

Castillo's Roadhouse (in Huff)
Di Donna's
The Walrus
Bistro
East 40 (best steaks ever, and somehow, damn fine crab cakes)
Kathleen's

But a regular source of inexpensive and authentically spicy food is hard to find around here. Whereas wonderful Pad Thai can be had back home for under $7 -- if I want it here, I've got to shell out $17. Sigh.

Anyone else a cultural prisoner?

I am hungry, and have visions of steak sandwiches dancing in my head. I think I should be fat, but my INSANE metabolism saves me. I eat 4-5 meals a day, mostly consisting of sugar, fat, bread, and red meat, but am only approximately 225 lbs (most of which is muscle), at 6'1'', and in the USA, that's pretty damn good!

I used to eat like that, but when I was sent to Germany by the Army I started eating better food, and less of it. Paradoxically I gained about 30lbs (not of fat). Right now I'm about 190 and 6'3"

Oh, shit -- you poor devil!

I've had some of the best food of my life in Texas. Barbecued brisket with a sauce that makes you weep. I spent the summer one year in Austin and couldn't get enough Tex-Mex. Even the chains down there were good, like Papasito's and Papadeaux. I feel for you. Hang in there.

Word. I'm in Texas now (which is actually very good for certain cuisine like Tex-Mex and Cajun) and I miss those Seattle-area restaraunts. Shockingly though I just discovered a Taco Del Mar near my job so I can finally get some fish tacos, but I have yet to find an Italian place that can compete with Beppo's or a cheap burger joint with Kidd Valley. You also forgot Anthony's Home Port (Seattle, Edmonds and I think Everett), Gordito's of Greenwood, and you may not know of this one but Sunfish Fish & Chips on Alki. And of course the international district and its amazing Asian food.

I could really go for some fish tacos right now actually. And some Pyramid Hefeweizen. :D

Not only wouldn't the school sell to me, they looked at me as if I had to be some kind of a perv just using a desire for cookies as a cover story :(
