French student protesters get beaten up. And it wasn't the police.

It's in German. But I'll translate the gist of it.:D

At the university of Tolbiac in the south of Paris the shock sit's deep.
Here it was where the first student protests started in early February, which were peacefull. But since a week fear is going around. So far the students only knew one main opponent. The tough CRS riot police. No one expectet that they would face an even more brutal enemy. Gangs from the Banlieues.

The age peers (is this correct?) of the students which since short startet to mingle with the demonstraters don't just stand out because of their hoods and thick scarfs. But because they walk around between the lines. Once a student moves away from the crowd to take a picture or make a phonecall, he becomes a target. A kick in the back or a hit on the head and the attacker vanishes into the crowd of the demonstraters.
Allthough so far it's only been a few hundred hooligans, they did change the protestmarches into a gauntlet run. (is this right?)

The rest you can find under the link. In German. Don't forget that.

So there are now protestors who beat the students up for not protesting, as well as police who beat the students up for protesting? I think we can now, officially, declare the country of France to be clinically insane and build a fence around it.

What, and contain the fun? I'm hoping this spreads. :)

Well this is getting interesting.

France has a problem and I would love to see how they're going to deal with it.

No. It's not protesters beating up students for not protesting. My translation isn't that bad. It's gangbangers from the Banlieues who see the student protesters as easy targets. You know? Those 'misunderstood, underpriveledged, poor' immigrants who torched all those cars for weeks a while ago.

I thought that they were hitting the protesters for leaving the groups because they enjoy protests, for what ever reason.

Heh, it sure sounded that way in the quoted paragraph.

The article actually goes on to say that it's basically a bunch of asshole hooligans out for "fun" in the form of beating up the students any chance they get (hence mainly when the latter step outside the group) and mugging them to steal backpacks, wallets, cell phones, cameras, etc.

Seems like there are no political reasons for this.

The attackers are simply slum kids with a hang for violence (and who have now realised that they only get attention if they burn cars), and the protestors are easy targets.

And the protestors can't understand why the slum kids would be doing it, when they are the ones they're trying to help. Afterall, those who protest have their wealthy parents, their university educations and their safe part-time jobs.

Thats no excuse for attacking them. Im poor and I cant understand it either. Its not about being priveliged, or in poverty, or alienation. People are violent because they are just bad people. The police should just shoot the violent ones, which would also let the students see that the state isnt against them and maybe the protests would stop.

I'm just saying that the protestors might be a little disconnected from the sort of thing they're protesting, no more, no less.

Obviously those who attack them are dickheads and should be dealt with (not shot, why would you even say that?) by the police.
