AHMEDABAD, India (March 27) - A jobless alcoholic burned himself to death after his wife refused to serve him meat for dinner, Indian police said Sunday.


Sixty-year-old Mithailal Ram Sanjivan doused his body with an inflammable liquid and set himself ablaze outside his one-room house in Ahmedabad, the main city of western Gujarat state.


Police said the victim, who had been without a job for years, and his wife, Geeta Sanjivan, 54, had a scuffle over the dinner menu.


The wife refused to cook meat as they could not afford it.


Irritated by this, Sanjivan locked her in the house before setting himself on fire outside.

Now why would ya? I'm vegan, and I never hunger for it. Ya get used to not having it after a while. And your body adjusts, so eating meat after a long time of not eating it would likely be seen as a foreign body by your body and would make you ill.

If you ever do get a craving, whilst there are some really bad alternatives to meat products available, there are some great ones too. Realeat does some brilliant bangers that are suitable for veggies and vegans. Redwoods also do some great (though a rip-off) bacon-style rashers that are vegan and, once cooked, tastes amazingly like bacon.

The only thing hard to find, even for a vegan, is something that tastes very close to milk, I reckon. Though some soya milks come fairly close.

That is Toor Dahl. Used to make Sambar (South Indian style) or Dahl (North Indian style).
