NHL 06-The Game

I am talking about the game not the Nathional hockey league Season.

I've had it since November 17th of last year and have been playing it off and on since winning the Stanley Cup on Easy mod with the Mighty Dallas Stars!

Anyways the last two nights i've been playing against firstly the Tampa Bay Lighting who pretty much ran circles around me with the worst score being 11-5 after 4 games well tonight i played the Toronto Maple Leafs in 3 games and after scores of 4-3 and 5-3 i won 5-3!!!

Damn i am so proud of myself as i've probably 'started' 15 games and this is the first one i have one.

Goals 5-3 to Dallas
Shots 27-24 to Dallas first time i have one this
Hits 38-15 to Dallas first time i have one this
Faceoffs 6-8 to Toronto
Time on Attack 9:27-6:19 to Dallas
Penalty Minutes 7-7
Powerplay 0-1-0-1
Powerplay minutes 0:21-0:21
SHG 0-0
Breakaways 0-2 to Toronto
One Timers 19-4 To Dallas i need to work on my shot selection and direction
One Timer Goals 0-1 to Toronto
Penalty Shots 0-0
Empty Net Goals 1-0
Passing 37/66(56.06%)- 94/124(75.81%) - I rush it way to much which causes needless turnovers

1st Period
Lehtinen(Marrow, Boucher) 3:33-Basically worked it from the dropping of the puck down the left from Modano to Boucher and then Morrow who sucked in two defenders to leave lehtinen skating unmarked on the far side.

Modano(Morrow) 4:31-Modano one the drop again passed to Morrow who went down the left passed into the centre for Modano to shelf it.

Sundin(Tucker, Kaberle) 15:24-After fighting so hard during the first period they( Toronto) made a breakaway out nubmered the defenders had Turco on his backside and slotted it home.

Reichel(Stajan) 18:51-Turnover from a shoddy pass while i had a tired line on resulted in another odd man rush.

2nd Period
Marchment Roughing (Minor) 6:11
Guerin Tripping (Minor) 6:32
Guerin had been Roughed by Marchment after 6:11 this gave me the Powerplay but 21 seconds later he returned the favour and was put in the box himself for tripping which was probably a good thing as i was in trouble, this changed the tempo of the game and although no goals were scored while it was 4 on 4 and then Toronto's short poweplay their confidence was up and soon enough lead to a goal.

Stajan (Kaberle, Reichel) 12:13- One timer again after intense pressure finnally giving Toronto the lead i was thinking ah crap not again.

Straight after the goal was scored a fight was offered i turned it down and then they made a break then i accepted but it didn't activate until they had a shot from deep which Turco saved.
Darcy Tucker Fighting (Major) 12:48
Shane Corson Fighting (Major) 12:48
Darcy tucker is a complete nut earleir this year he dealt to someone with a helmet(:p ) he often wins fights and very well at that but today was different after he got a few good ones in i bocked a few Corson came back with some of his own lost his helmet and then gave a few punches back before it was broken up, i didn't win the fight but it was a good enough performance to sway the momentum abit.

3rd Period
Guerin(Erskine, Turco) 13:33-One of my famous rushes switching Defence into Offence Turco got the puck passed it to Erskine who found Guerin in the centre of the ice to slot it passed Eddie Belfour to tie it up.

Lehtinen(Morrow) 19:33-A mini-break Lehtinen dekes on the right took a shot and it hits the bar on the far side and goes in with 27 seconds left.

Modano (EN)(Unassisted) 19:45-Toronto pulls their GT straight away and win the puck go into my third where Modano wins it in a challenge skates up to the Toronto third and shoots and scores.

I feel so good to finally win a game especially against Toronto now i need to try my luck at Tampa or Detroit i am confident i can contain them while still playing aggresivly and positivly.

One fault i have found is goals can be a bit too easy for the oposition to get.:p
The Music list is ok but not great.
Do you have this game?
If you don't do you want it?
Have you mastered it yet?
Should i try my luck at the regular season?
Any faults with it?
Who is your favourite team?
Who will win the actual Stanley Cup?

Your thoughts?

1. Practice defence. Eventually you can get away with one goal a game.
2. It is expected to suck. It is a mainstream game.
3. No.
4. No, I bought 2004 and it got repetative, fast.
5. 2004, yes.

7. Hitting has been getting too easy to do these last few years.
8. Flames

Yes, hitting as in checking. By the time you are able to play on hard, you can hit everyone every time. Gets dull fast. What the hell is GT?

What team is your fave?

Iginla is the reason I liked the Flames in the first place. I liked Calgary before their near Cup run.

I play 04 were we got Turco. What is Kipper rated this time? In 05 he was 99 which was complete BS. Nobody should be past 93, and only a handful over 90. You should be able to improve your team for a few years, Instead of have a squad of 99's after two years (invest in coaching points[or whatever increases potential in 2006]).

Vancouver?! Are you kidding?! They're what... 9th in the conference. How can you go against your favorite team? Especially when they have a much better chance of winning it all.

Because Vancouver has alot of talent. If they could get off their asses and play like they can, they could be pure awesome.

EDIT: Also, due to geography, I follow the Canucks. If Calgary and Van play on the same day, I only get to see the Van game. I still watch quite a few Calgary games however.

Yeah i haven't tried dynasty Mode yet, the idea of players having a fit because they don't get enough ice time is a bit daunting.
Even now i'll be doing well in a game and then suddenly i fall to pieces, i know it is because i don't always keep my lines fresh.

The highest.
I completed the season on easy level played a few games on hard (and was competitive) and then played a few on the middle setting and i've played like utter crap (see Thrashers:p )

What really annoys me is when playes go on a cold streak and not one but 4 in 3 games at the start of a season.

OK, firstly please forgive my ignorance...but there is a game about Ice Hockey? Is it for PSP or PS2 or what? and what is it called and most importantly can I get it in the UK?

I have a Canadian Ice Hockey nut boyfriend and he is missing his hockey SO much, we get NASN so he can watch Hockey Night in Canada but it doesn't start till midnight......and lately they have not been showing it because they have been carrying some basketball or something instead, and he is begining to be very unhappy.....a game that he could play would be fantastic.....

We went into the game store yesterday and they said that they are not carrying the EA sports NHL o6 game at ALL because of lack of interest, and if they do get a hockey game at all, they only get about 2 games per store...So we have to try for it online...we found it, but its around £30 and out of stock...we can't get it from the US/Canada because of the different formats (the same as videos and dvd's. A wcked plot to stop us getting cheap games and films in England)
SO I am just going to smack him in the face with a plate and take him out while he is off guard...

I’ve got the game and it’s one of the few console games I play. Normally, my PS2 is just an overbuilt DVD player.

Opposition goals can come very easy if you have a defensive breakdown. Sometimes missing a big hit against someone streaking in is all you need to get scored on. Just try to keep the opposition to the outside and hit them before they can wind up for the big shots. Also keep your most valuable players out of the shooting lanes or they might get their ankles broken.

I actually like the music. It’s gotten me interested in some new groups.

I feel I’m pretty good at this game. I’d practice in exhibition mode to get the feel for it and then go straight to Dynasty. The Free For All Mode is also very good for practicing your skills.

I like this game way better than any previous version of the NHL franchise. One of my main beefs is that in Dynasty mode you can’t change the opposition’s jersey the way you can on Season mode.

Detroit looks to be in good position to win the real Stanley Cup, but these days that doesn’t mean as much as it used to. It really could be Montreal’s year, but I’m thinking that it will more likely be Dallas or Ottawa. I just hope the Rangers don't win.

I've noticed that the opposition tends to go aboslutly ape in the first 2 minutes really blitzing 'you' and with a man on the far side he has often got a very weak goal on me from a rebound.
My stratergy is to alter my defensive settings early on to try and nulify this threat and then get on with the Hockey.
In 3 games of Regular Season on Difficulty level i have allowed 19 goals and scored 17 all of them loses (Kings, Avalanche and Flames).
I lost Erskine(Dallas) to a broken Ankle in the previous season i played on Easy (I didn't bother with beginer)

I was not aware you coulds change the oppositions Jerseys, how do you do that?

If Modano is ok Dallas should be a good show but losing him just before the playoffs is a worry.

My team usually has about 7 players leading the league for +/-. But then again I do not have any defence and can let in four goals in a minute. Or have 4 guys in the box at once. Overkilling the opponant is the only way I survive.

When i was playing Easy i was doing that, Zubov had a tonne of assists and a +/- of 57 but The league leader for Goals was Keith Katchuck (Blues) with 130 which is obviously more than a goal a game.

If i can sort my defence out i'll be sweet obviously it depends on how aggressive one wants their offence to be, i prefer it at aggressive and switch to 'all out attack' to give an extra boost which i have noticed is the cause of many of my goals against as it leaves me naked at the back but even then they are getting to many wrist shots from deep out.

Yeah then sometimes they'll skate, draw back, skate to the net and fire it from point blank at 100mph.-Obviously i am missing some checking.

To keep goals down you need to have a pressure defence, putting pressure on the opposition in your zone. Don’t give them too much time to set up. If you see someone in behind the goal line away from the net and a guy going to the front of the net, go after the guy going to the front of the net and check him. You want to do everything you can to take away the front of the net and the middle of the ice.

Winning face offs is very important. If your centre ice man can’t win a face off it’s important that he tie up the other centreman on the draw. Recognizing the strength of opposing face off artists can be important. It’s worth it to put a winger at centre if they have a decent face off skill ranking, especially if your centre icemen aren’t good at draws. Not winning the draw starts you off without the puck and is very bad.

I find wrap arounds are effective but even more effective are the wrap around feints. You skate around and only shoot when the goalie is out of position. It’s very effective.

When a player is cold, unless they’re the type of player who scores a lot and has a high ability score, just sit them out a few games and they’ll be better again. Putting your shifts on Manual is the best too, because you can regulate ice time better.

I can’t remember the exact steps to changing the opposition jerseys (I imagine the controls vary anyways depending on it being console or PV) but if you fiddle around with uniform settings on Season mode enough you’ll figure it out. It doesn’t work on Dynasty mode, which is what I mainly play on.

I've noticed that they can tie me up on the draw is it the same buttons as holding?

I'll fiddle with it during the Jersey selections.
I can change mine but not theirs, perhaps it is Select or something.
I have it on PS2.

I play with manual for that very reason, it feels dirty having the cpu doing it for you( Same with Shot selection)

I have it on auto aim shooting. Between checking, stick handling, deking, and passing, I don’t have time to use the second joystick to aim as well. Being able to have the line you want on the ice when you want them though is very important. If you're on auto line change you might get your weakest face off man on the ice during an important draw in your end late in the game.

I think it’s the square button on faceoffs for tying up the opposition. If you’re up against a better face off artist, losing cleanly means you’re already behind the eight ball.

I noticed that in the manual they didn't have the save moves for goaltenders, necessary for shootouts. I know the same controls work the same from the previous game incarnation which does have the goalie controls listed.

The manual is pretty naked in relation to anything helpful but it does say a bit about Dynasty Mode which doesn't help me seeing as i ain't even up to that standard yet.

3 OT loses

Basically i suck on Defence.
Mighty Ducks, Thrashers and San Jose i shoud have all whipped but i stuffed up and they are in the top five in the NHL.
Oh yeah have you ever heard of Penalty Killing cause i haven't and often give a goal up within the first 5 seconds(Proving your point that that the face off is very important)

I still think that the best skill builder in the NHL 2006 game is the Free For All mode. You really need to fiddle around with that first. Start out with just you and a goalie to et the feel of shooting and stick handling. Then add a defenceman to work on your checking and evading.

You mean the Wests Tigers.:fluffle:
I have one of their Jerseys from the 1980's.:)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I played Detroit on the 16th and lost 2-1 in OT being outshot by 15 and they scored with 30 seconds to go in the 3rd with a PP-Which was dubious at best.-You know what i am talking about.
then they scored off the face Off pass pass. wide shot from deep.

The game before i whipped St Louis and Turco is playing well.
