if you could go on holiday/vacation to just one place for a week, right now, where would you go? cost is not an issue, all expenses paid, and they only show the best movies on the flight (mostly porn ;))
post a pic of your destination if you can find one :)

myself, my current #1 fancy is i'd love to go to Machu Picchu in Peru: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machu_Picchu (and take a shitload of photographic kit :P )

Philadelphia. True it's only 2 hours away.. but I think it's the best place in the world. I even know my favorite store and starbucks. Betsy Ross' house, Starbuck, a Real World house, and a cool store all on one corner. How American. God bless 3rd & Arch.

Anywhere I want to? Oooh... then I'd have to say the Ennedi and Tibesti regions in Chad. I've had trouble finding decent pictures online, but you get the idea:

And if that didn't work out, I'd go back to here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/whereyouthinkyougoing/92763204/in/set-72057594055931133/) in a flash. :)

1 week? Pfft, I don't care for big holidays less than 2 weeks long. I'd rather i didn't get all expenses paid, but could live and work there for 2 month or more. There are so many places to go to though... I'd have a hard time choosing just one. Probably somewhere in the non-European part if the former Soviet Union. Maybe Azerbajian or Kazakhstan.

1 week? 1 week doesn't give you enough time to do anything indepth. I scorn on your short holidays.

I think I'd make a tour from the North Pole to the South Pole, through Europe and Africa.
There's so many places I'de like to see on the way, Norway, Finland, St. Petersburg, Moskow, Yalta, Istanbul, Egypt, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, the Victoria Falls, Kruger National Park.... to name but a few.

I remember the terrorist attacks of the Kurdish PKK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PKK) in Germany too well to assume that anywhere with a lot of Kurds around is a particularly safe place :p

Oooooohhh, that's like porn to me, you know. Travel porn. :p
That looks great.

Did you see Zhang Yimou's "Hero"? That picture totally reminds of that insanely beautiful white Chinese desert where the "white" part of the movie is set. I'm not having too much luck with pics today, here's all I could find: one (http://www.geocities.com/azuchiwind/hero_desert.jpg), two (http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/cinema/film_award/images/index/hero01.jpg), three (http://csc.ziyi.org/news/hero-ziyifeature01-variety-pic01.jpg) (the last one mainly because it best shows the actual colors). It's in Inner Mongolia, IIRC, and I really want to got there one day.

ETA: Um, yeah, I just realized that these pics look nothing like the one of Australia. :p But in the movie it did, I swear!

From what I hear, the Kurds in Iraq love American's right now. I don't know about the ones in other states, but having met a very vocal Canadian of Kurdish descendant, I've learned that Kurds are apparently the worlds largest minority without thier own country, or something along those lines. I take everything with a bit of salt, because I really have no idea. Anyhow, Northern Iraq is where I'd be going on this weekend vacation.

Oh, Mongolia, totally forgot about that! Gotta check that out sometime! :D

post a pic of your destination if you can find one :)I'm surprised no-one has explored the parameters of this question as far as they could... Theoretically you could say anywhere in the universe, you know...

But I won't be greedy. Let's just say I choose Mars. (I'm assuming my expenses would include provision of pressure suit, suitable environmentally-sound accomodation and the flight be some sort of usable interplanatary starship or possibly even Stargate.)

I'd take a bucket and spade and bring some rock back. Provision of said samples to earth-bound scientists at even bagain-basement prices (compared with how much 'standard' collection of samples would cost) should allow me to retire and afford as many more other weeks of more earthly travel as I could wish as well... [Unless the ability to holiday there had not as mysteriously evapourated after my trip as it had much as it had somehow materialised before, in which case fair game to those that go after me... But I could at least live off of the fame... ;]

I am totally on the same page...I am planning a vacation in Philly right now for May. I especially love the University City district.

Besides that, I'd probably like to go see my old stomping grounds around Harrogate and have some fun in the UK now that I'm not 10 years old anymore.

That's beautiful :)
The History Channel had a Modern Marvels thing on Mining, and Wieliczka got a bit of screen time on it for being one of the biggest (or maybe it was the biggest) underground mine. Sad part is, they closed off the part of the mine that you used to be able to go boating in after a couple of dumbass tourists got themselves killed.
