Lack of Common Decency in Kid's Programing
Wow...I was surfing the channels. Okay, so I turn on Nickelodians "Kid's Choice Awards," or whatever the hell it's called. I stop for a second and, lol and behold, you wanna know what the entertainment for that show is? Basically some idiot yelling "I don't want to be a stupid girl!" with some co-dancers who look like strippers. I am officially pissed. I am not for censorship, (hell, one of my cousins used to make commercials for Nickelodian products) but that's wrong. They showed clips of the audience. Half of them looked up 6. My God, don't these idiots have any common decency?

Thankfully, the Kid's Choice awards are never remembered because the kids who vote are ashamed of their young tastes in pop music within three years.

What's the big deal? Not so very long ago, those kids you're so worried about now would have spent 10-12 hours a day making shoes or sewing shirts or doing some other manner of labor for little more than the food they ate. You're bitching because they might see something they probably see every day anyway. Get a little persepctive, why don't you?

Agreed. If you think TV is bad, go to a public school.
Maybe it was a song about the importance of a good education. :)
Actually your right. That song is supposed to be against being a "stupid girl". The dancers are supposed to be demonstrative of what a stupid girl looks and acts like. Not sure its effective though. Song-wise I think its fairly poor.

Which one? And which symbol? And are there pictures?
Anyways, barring the nazi thing, I agree with other sensible voices here: kids are going to see things that you may deem offensive, no matter how much you control their TV or whatever. They (we all, really) live in what is most likely the best time to be alive in the history of humanity. So stop complaining about what's on TV, and perhaps go focus your energies on something with real impact, like maybe sweatshop labor.

If you want your kids to hear a song with a message, force them to listen to Rage Against the Machine.

What does that have to do with this?
Not that I’m offending by Nickelodeon. It didn’t go far enough. Those chicks should have been naked, and at the end of the song the singer should have turned around and blown one of their heads off with a shotgun while ninjas dropped from the rafters and snapped the necks of the others. Immediately following, the ninjas would have simultaneously thrown ninja death stars at the singer right before drawing katanas and committing seppuku. Then a group of cannibals could come out and clean up.
Anyways, barring the nazi thing
Kids aren't going to see Nazi images? Public education really does suck.

Point well made.
About the sweatshop thing: someone who's bothered by kids seeing half-naked girls should probably be a lot more offended by kids working 12 hour days sewing clothes for almost no pay with slavedriver-like bosses and terrible conditions. Just sayin'.

I am offended by that. I've posted about that in other threads. I'm not offended by the half naked women per se. I'm offended that that's a show that they advertise to 6 year olds. Oh, and I'm really pissed off about the Nazi symbol.

Surely that is not what you just said.
a) The Iron Cross (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_cross) has nothing to do with the Nazis. Indeed, it was the symbol of something the Nazis detested and fought.
b) There are a good number of fashion brands that use modified versions of the iron cross. "Independent Truck Company (http://www.independenttrucks.com/)" for example.

Bah. That one was the basically the same design as one of my great-great-grandfathers wore in WWI. As a good German Jew - awarded for bravery at Tannenberg. So I guess wearing that made hime a good German Nazi Jew?

Variations were also used by the German Army and Air Force during WW1, and I just found one example on a Christian t-shirt quoting scripture, for sale online. :p

1.The kids most likely don't even know what a nazi is.
2.Has it occured to you that it could just be a cross that looks similar to the iron cross?
3.Even if it was an Iron cross, and even if the guy was a nazi, what difference does it make? Those kids don't really care.

Of course they wore them (ie people from the military, who may or may not have been Nazis, the NSDAP had its own different symbols and medals). But they were trying to destroy its meaning.
The Iron Cross is a traditionally Prussian thing. It's associated with Prussian militarism, with the soldierly aristocracy. And that was what Hitler was fighting to the very end - he didn't want Prussian soldiers with their strict moral codex, he wanted Nazis who believed in his racial utopia and would do anything for it.

Oh, the ignorance. Are you referring to the song "Stupid Girl" by Pink? If you had actually bothered to know anything about what you are talking, you would have known that that song mocks Britney and Christina and Jessica and all those others, and tells girls to not become the semi-naked idiots these other performers are. Have you seen the video to the song? You should. And then shut your yap.
Come on, this is just silly. Do you think children are going to become nazi strippers because they saw it on television? If so, we need smarter children, not censored television. Show me one 8 year old nazi stripping girl, just one if you think that show is such a bad influence.
