Uk Bands are the best?

Hydesland

Does anyone agree with me that British bands totally pwn American bands. Or in other words have way more good bands then in America, throughout the century that is. If anyone starts saying a load of shitty emo bands that are american are better then any of the british greats they should be shot:sniper: EMO BECAME POPULAR IN ENGLAND FIRST ANYWAY FOOLS, damn you england for unleashing this horrible music trend.

You're right. Although S Club 7 represented some of the best musical talent that Britain has ever produced, they didn't really become great until they started doing series in America.

You are ignoring the point that emo was ticking away very nicely for slightly under twenty years before it got grabbed by big business and made into a laughable shadow of its former self.

Check out the roots of emo, and you could be pleasently surprised - it has little in common with the cartoon caricature that it has become.

EDIT: aside from which England != UK.

Fair point, i am aware of emos humble begginings but lets stop talkin about emos and more about the main topic.

What kind of idiosyncratic calendar do you operate on?

That, I'm afraid to say, is an awful question...

After all, it comes down to a totally subjective choice, e.g. The Clash or the Ramones? The Beatles or Bob Dylan?

I think we can all agree, apart from Mariehamn, that Sweden is the worst. Who came from Sweden? Abba, the Rasmus...anyone else anyone's ever heard of?

britain- radiohead, queen, led zeppelin, motorhead, joy divison

america- kid rock, staind, alien ant farm, papa roach, bon jovi

result: britain especially in relation to teh first two bands

Pick five random bands to represent the entire countrys music? I can play that game!

Britain - Steps, Spice Girls, Take That, ...meh, you get my point.

I choose neither. Scandinavian metal! \o/

I'm thrifty, and therefore, I have more Kent than Mötorhead.

Eh, Hydesland, don't get the idea I don't like British music, I think it's great.

And, if anything, I'd say the last few years have been pretty good, certainly in indie, but other stuff as well. Funeral For a Friend, Lost Prophets, GLC just to name some Welsh bands I think have been doing some good stuff.

Yeah you can say it's not classic material, but until we're a few years down the line, who knows eh?

Of my entire music collection, which has been built up over 6 years now, there are around 12 American artists. Out of 170 in total.

Out of those 12, only 2 (The Dresden Dolls and Kimya Dawson) are still alive and still playing today.

Hey Hey Hey, the great thing about Radiohead is they do what they do. Very creative, and a little arty, a little depressing perhaps, but it's that kind of uplifting depressing. Like, this is how it is, but it's okay.

Pink floyd was another

If you find the lyrics 'It's gonna be a glorious day, I feel my luck could change' morbidly depressing, then you're a strange person.

Radiohead have displayed an unparalleled amount of creativity and variety in their music since their debut in the early 90s. They have dipped into almost all the major genres and still come out with a sound that is entirely their own. And, unlike many other bands, they don't just stick with a formula that works - they continue to play what they feel is good, and not just what the radio stations like to play. Their music evolves with every new song.

Progressive rock - you've gotta love it.

My favourite to... though I may never see them live, I can always dream. They always have concerts in cities on the other side of Scotland during the school term when I'm unable to go.

So I'll just get all their music.

Well i listen to almost only metal, so i refer to that. By history, England rulz by far, Black Sabbath and the NWOBHM with legnd, iron maiden, judas priest, diamond head an a long etcetera has it right in. USA might approach with the four great of thrash (metallica, megadeth, slayer and anthrax) plus morbid angel, manowar, iced earth and some other. But no comparison anyway, England kicks ass. In the modern scene, england rank among the best metal countries, alongside finland, norway, sweden and germany.

A whole album of songs that consist of one phrase repeated over and over. Even the Germans hae better music than us right now.
