Ah, the irony.

Networks never fail to amaze me. It appears that FX has developed a sense of humour. That or they are simply idiots :P
There is a showing of the movie Fight Club on today. Its one of those movies I change the channel for, mostly just for the scene where the main charecter beats himself up.
Anyway, this is not about the movie.
This is about the commercials.
EVERY other commercial was either one of those horrible clothing commercials where the men somehow manage to have giant muscles and, at the same time, look like women and All the women, of course, look as though they have trouble keeping their balance, or a Bowflex/Ab-lounge/Whatever commercial, where people basically look the same.
Now, who appreciates the irony?

Suddenly I wish I could muster the effort to watch FX instead of continuing my movie.....DAMN YOU!

you'll know it's a sense of humour if every other commercial is for soap.

I'm guessing from the title it could be a film about some idiots in a bar brawl?

Correct me if I guessed wrong.

I'll school you in a minute or less. Somebody else will probably give you the full thing.

One of the key messages in Fight Club is against the large corporations and the mass conformity and blah blah blah. It's kinda like.....if the emos and punks grew up, and got even creepier, then started an organization. With explosives.

Another key message is that Edward Norton is a crazy fuck who doesn't know how to make a movie that paints him as an average, normal kinda guy, but eh....that's not the issue of the thread.

Jaha, see it now.
One question: are we talking about the actually punks or the people that say they are gothic, but really end up being punks?

In one scene Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pit, points to a Calvin Klein ad and asks "Is that what a man's supposed to look like?"

Tyler Durden is kind of critical of all the messages from advertizing about what we're supposed to look like and aspire to.

I'm talking about the real punks, the ones who hate the establishment and actually stand for something. Classic punks.

You're corrected. It's more about discovering who you are in a world that feeds you constant messages about who you're supposed to be.

emos are like kinda goths but not goths, i dunno hard to explain, so here is a steryoptypical image of one http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/images/2/23/Boys.gif

basically they are almost scum but chavs beat them to it omg i hate chavs, but for no reason at all here is a definition of a chav for those who dont know
The stereotypical chav is someone who:

wears particular clothing, such as:
Brand name athletic clothing and shoes. Stereotypically, this might include white trainers and tracksuits.
Fake designer clothing and accessories, in particular the distinctive tartan of Burberry, similar to (and perhaps derived from) the casuals of football supporters.
"Bling": that is, gaudy gold or platinum jewellery — in particular conspicuous earrings and trinkets on chains for women, and gold sovereign rings for men.
Sports caps and hoodies. Often both are worn, the hood pulled up over the baseball cap, thus obscuring the wearer's face.
Sports or jogging trousers, often tucked into white sports socks. These are also referred to as "tracky Bs", "trackies" or "tracky bottoms".
if female, wears thickly applied make-up, makes heavy use of fake tan, and has a hairstyle in which the hair is pulled back into a tight bun or ponytail (called a "Croydon facelift" [7] or "council-house facelift"), and stilettos.
is associated with crass, drunken behaviour and minor criminal activities. This includes unprovoked attacks on members of the public (see happy slapping), vandalism, verbal abuse, and drug abuse. This delinquency may be carried out under the influence of cheap alcohol, often after the pubs have closed.
lives on housing estates and other low-income neighbourhoods, often supported by the "dole" [8] (unemployment benefit).
owns a tastelessly modified car, usually with a basic original specification, but decorated in a gaudy style. The Vauxhall Nova is one of the many small hatchbacks associated with this stereotype.[8]
takes part in under-aged drinking and sex (and, consequently, is associated with teen pregnancy).[8]
congregates and loiters in areas such as shopping centres [9] and fast food restaurants [10].
pronounces English in a style that is seen to be unsophisticated and characterised by slack diction — for example, the pronunciation of "thing" as "fing"

that had absolutely nothing to do with emo i just dont like chavs

Yes being British I'm aware of what a 'Chav' is.

They are the young vermin who now make up the population of Britain's awful social housing projects.

Emos look like complete freaks, from that picture.

I thought Punks were crap, well now they have some competition for who is the most shit.

What losers!

Having read up on this Fight Club on the wiki:

It sounds like a complete load of SHIT!

Rehashed BS from the writings of Karl Marx and crappy anarchism.

Just another one of those leftist films making subversion out to be brave and noble.

I don't think I'm going to waste my time actually watching that pile of shit.

It's one of those things where the book had a little bit of value to it, and then the movie sucked balls. At the base of it you have not only a really good message, but also some elements that don't get a whole lot of cinematic play -- the problem is they turned it into the movie that nobody wanted it to be, figuring they were making the movie that everybody would want to see. Even worse, all the kids with false causes seemed to clamp onto it, so it's still enjoying something of a cult classic sort of feel to it.

I admit, I kinda enjoyed it the first time I saw it. But I was younger and stupid, and if memory serves I was so drunk that halfway through I started a fist-fight with one of my friends over a grammatical argument, so I doubt I can really be held accountable for that one.

Way to judge something without actually knowing anything about it wahtsoever. You dont even have to agree with a films message to enjoy it, or do you only ever watch things you agree with?
