Blogging: Good Or Bad?

My sister and I disagree over whether blogging is a good or bad phenomenon.

I say it is super, at least for keeping one's friends and family up to date with whatever is going on (Particularly if distance keeps folks apart). My MSNSpace has been described as "the most comprehensive blog ever" by a friend, and I love looking back on what I wrote weeks or months ago, and flipping through the old pictures (I have hundreds up, in addition to the sometimes-lengthy written entries, and I put up a new video every so often).

My sis argues that it is a waste of resources, and people would be better off writing something of more lasting significance. Even she set up one to showcase some trip pictures to her friends, though.

Naturally, the only way to solve the dispute is a Nationstates poll and discussion. What is your take on it?

Blogging--the internet in general, really--has rejuvenated interest in the written word, and from my perspective, that can't help but be a net plus. You don't improve as a writer without practice, and people of my generation had far fewer convenient opportunities to write extemporaneously. Not all writing has to be "for the ages."

They're alright. I have a blog that nobody but me has every visited. It's kind of amusing.

I've been thinking of putting some of my old diary entries online for friends to read (I don't have any secrets from them anyway), but I wouldn't personally make a blog. I do however have a large website to which I add pages every week or so (serious things though - not opinion pieces).

Opinions are not serious now? I always thought the purpose of reason was to back up one's opinions with logic. I would argue that opinions are some of the most serious things that one holds, and at times some of the best things one has to share.

I express my opinions where they can be discussed (like here, for example). My website is purely informational.

I have a blog, I don't know why anyone would be bored enough to read it, but they do anyway. I think it helps me deal with stress, which is a bonus, but probably isn't all that useful.
