Hero Cars

In production parlance, a 'hero car' is any car that is driven by a character in a movie or show. Most of the time these cars are more or less non-discript, but sometimes they are part of the identification of the character.
Since I'm in that kind of mood, pick your favorite notorious hero car.
B.A. Barracus' A-Team Van (http://cache.jalopnik.com/cars/images/a_team_van.jpg)
How hard could it been to track down four guys in a custom van? Anyway...
Starsky & Hutch's Gran Turino (http://carpictures.carjunky.com/albums/Movie-Cars/starsky_and_hutch_gran_turino.sized.jpg).
You knew you where in for excitment when they put that little siren thing on top.
Hardcastle & McCormick's Coyote (http://members.aol.com/officerdcj/coyote1.jpg).
A race car driver and his kit car help a judge track down cases he had to let go on technicalities by further breaking procedurial rules.
Crockett's Miami Vice Daytona Spyder (http://www.miami-vice.org/pictures/cast/5.jpg)
I understand he has to look like a rich drug guy, but a half a million dollar sports car so rare there are people who know who owns every one?
The Saint's Volvo P1800 (http://www.bilnorge.no/export/bb_17026.jpeg)
Nothing snide, I like this car.
Cobra's '50 Merc (http://adorocinema.cidadeinternet.com.br/filmes/stallone-cobra/stallone-cobra03.jpg).
Apparently this was one of Stallone's actual cars. Crime is the disease...
Magnum P.I.'s Ferrari 308 (http://www.fiftiesweb.com/tv/magnum-pi-ferrari.jpg)
This was supposed to be a Porsche 928 but Sellick couldn't fit in it. They where going to cut it into a convertable but then Porsche head Ferdinand Piech hated cabriolets and didn't want them showing a car they didn't sell.
The Fall Guy's truck (http://members.fortunecity.de/fallguy/fgcircle.jpg). Another link, if the first doesn't work for you. (http://www.us-car-history.de/filmautos/coltgmc/Truck1.jpg)
If you're going to spend your time using your stunt man skills solving crimes, why drive a fragile little show piece?
The Nash Bridge's Cuda (http://www.tvshowcentral.net/tvshows/nash/nash_show_3.jpg)
Never watched the show, but I likey 'Cudas...
and of course-
The Blues Mobile (http://members.fortunecity.com/delanay/bb70.jpg)
Now I purposefully chose cars that didn't have 'special powers' because I've already done that poll, so no Bond cars, etc. And the General Lee, for the sake of argument, had 'special powers.'
So there it is, pick your favorite.

So does the Coyote, and that's a fragile fiberglass kit car. It was just 'too much' of the herp car, the actual hero of the show instead of an accessory. If you like think of it as a "Besides Ali, who's the greatest" kind of thing.

At one point in that movie, I think when he Sheen gives it to his brother, you can see the big DODGE written on it.
But that is definetly a supercar, since it can dematerialize and had all that electricy glowee stuff when the little tech guy tried to put the kill switch on it. It was on the last poll, I believe.
Didn't think I'd remember that much about the movie, didja? The wastoids drove the same 'Cuda my dad had. (which he gave to my uncle, who gave it to his girlfriends sister instead of me *sob*, and I recently found out is abandoned near his house...oh, if I was only able to take on a new project...)

I have to admit, the only reason I watched Starsky & Hutch was in the hopes that the car would be in a chase. There where suprisingly few. Huggy Bear made up for that, though...

For all those reasons and more, it was on the last poll. This was more for real world/available to public cars that where used as 'hero cars' (in film production terms) in movies and tv shows. Where were you on the last poll givin' that one love? I think most people ignored it thinking I made it up. Or I halucinated adding it on the poll, but I'm pretty sure I did because I've watched that movie a disturbing number of times...

not sure i can place that name, but if he or she teleport instead of driving a car, that's worth at least 60 hero points.
flying saucers and non-aerodynamic non-surface craft are worth 30 or 40.
silver surfer gets those. i think swat kats do to. even biker mice from mars get 15 or 20 for being on two wheels instead of four.

Main thing I remember about that show other then the car is many episodes where the plot revolves around San Francisco's gay community. His partner Domingez getting Nash to play as his partner. I really didn't find it to humerous but... hey there were plenty of stupid criminals for Nash to catch and a bunch of lowlifes seemed to continually be trying to kill him. He must be popular :D

Or, an empty shell they fling and a functional one that they use in the next cut.
But the point wasn't really that it did stunts. If you look at half the pictures of the cars they're in the air. Like I had said, it was mostly arbitrary, and that the car was almost as much of a character as the actual characters.

Well, the backflip off the drawbridge is a compelling argument, but it was more about the role of the car in the show that made the decision, I explain again...
I have a soft spot for Land Rovers, my grandfather was the first dealer to sell them west of the Mississippi (granted, an overqualified 'first,' but hey...)
But you'd have to find a character in a tv show or film that was identified with driving a Land Rover.

What about the Sdkfz 222?
http://ww2.kulichki.ru/w/img/ger/sdkfz222.jpg
Very cool.
Again, someone from a tv show or film would have to be identified with that truck. History Channel documentaries don't count.
Or the Church Mobile from the Simpsons similar to the Mystery Machine(I cannot remember its actual name)
Obscure, I like it. (though for full points you would have had to remember its name)

Bullitt's '68 Mustang GT390.
James Bond's Aston Martin in Goldfinger.[/QUOTE]
I explained I think in my second post that I couldn't include that car because I have a distinct bias towards it. I would have spent the entire thread lambasting anyone who didn't pick it.
James Bond's Aston Martin in Goldfinger.
'Super'car, other thread.

Hey, a shout out to Ecto 1, the Animal House Deathmobile and the Bluesmobile.
The Ecto 1 would be borderline, the Deathmobile is a good call, and finally some love for the BluesMobile.
I knew that the A-Team van would get the most votes, but I thought that the Blues Mobile would be the close second runner (maybe it's because I accidently called it the Blues Machine in the poll). Never in a million years would I have thought that The Saint's Volvo would get so much love.

That's why it couldn't be included, it's the only of its kind (granted, it was a Falcon, but in the movie it was a unique.
Wellll.....technically (and for arguments sake) it is only referred to as the "Last V8 Interceptor" in the 2nd movie. Even then it isn't really an Interceptor but a Pursuit Special, of which there were two in the 1st movie; the one Max stole (XB Falcon) and the one the Nightrider stole (Holden Monaro). The only Interceptor in the Mad Max Trilogy was the initial yellow car he drove to take out the Nightrider, which was just a standard cop car of the MFP.

Isn't the one that Max steals a special that was used in part to entice Max to stay with the force after the person who f'd up Goose is let free? And they talk about it like it's at least going to be the last or only of its kind?
(sweet crap...I wonder how much of my life has been spent watching that movie...In my defense, they show the opening scene in film school for both Mad Max and Road Warrior in different classes...)

Different kind of hero-but if you have a distinct looking car you should keep an eye out for a chance to rent it as a picture car. Unfortunately, it's a lot of 'who you know' and luck-neither I've had much of yet...

It was really just the Falcon version of the Monaro the Nightrider had been driving (both cars were Pursuit Special - Special being a higher end car I guess). But you are right in that Max was going to quit until the MFP stuck a blower onto the Falcon Pursuit Special to get him to stay (Goose is still alive at this point, just a broken leg from his encounter with the Nightrider) which does make it somewhat in a league of its own.
There are a large number of cars involved the first movie and anyone of them if not all together at least do deserve some sort of recognition as a great hero car (or set of hero cars).

Well, Grand Ams are in a lot of rental fleets...but you'd make an art director's job pretty easy with all those stickers in the right situation (and the art director has to approve all the picture car co-ordinator's choices...)

Ahh, but you metioned the General Lee was not inlcuded for it's nearly indestructable...ness. Every MFP car minus the Falcon Pursuit Special and Max's own Interceptor (yellow car) is destroyed in the 1st film (3 in the first 10 minutes). When the 2nd film rolls around, that suriving car Pursuit Special (now called an Interceptor...) is blown up halfway through (not that it was in great shape to start with).

I also said it was arbitrary, and eventually settled on the role of the car, even though we don't have a seperate term for cars like the Lee...
But, in the world of internet discussions this is about as important as what your favorite butter spread is, so it can be your favorite if you want-no one is forced to meet my arbitrary criteria (obviously, since half the posts are off...)-it's just why I chose some over others to be on the list.
And no way did I think that Cobra's '50 Merc would get so many votes...I kinda saw the Coyote getting snubed...

'67 Plymouth GTX driven by Angel (spinoff from Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Now that was a nice car. A true classic muscle car.
For that matter in Forever Knight, the vampire drove a really nice ’62 Cadillac.
So, yeah I watched some shows that had vampires in them, so what?
The A-Team Van? I mean it was a van. Unless BA armour plated the thing with his handy dandy arc welding skills, it’s just a white van. It’s the kind of vehicle parents warn their children to stay away from if they see them drive by the school.
