Condoleezza Rice today admitted that America had made thousands of tactical errors in the invasion of Iraq.

The US Secretary of State, answering questions from journalists during a tour of North West England, insisted, however, that its overall strategy of removing Saddam Hussein would be judged favourably in the future.

Though the article concentrates more on the protests and not her visit, I think it was wise of Ms. Rice to admit that mistakes were made which is more of a story than the protests.

Andrew Gilligan made one mistake in a relatively low-listener level radio show and loses his job.

Yet how many people will be sacked for the thousands of errors made by the allies in Iraq? None.

Some people can't admit mistakes. Some people can but won't take any responsibility for their actions...

Well, I think the families who lost American Military personnel paid a pretty big price. Not to mention the Iraqi civilians.

Now all she has to do is admit those mistakes were the result of immense incompetence and that many of the mistakes were made in contrast to the advice of people who were infinately more qualified in the area of warfare than anyone in the Bush administration. Level of troops comes to mind immediately.

I'm debating between two responses:

"No shit, Sherlock?" and "What gave you the first clue?"

What Rice is trying to do is deflect the mistakes away from the White House (by saying there was never any strategic mistakes made), and blading the troops on the ground and their commanders (by saying that there were thousands of tactical mistakes).
