Haha I know that one by heart. That way whenever people ask me a math question or a science question I don't know, I respond by asking that question.

the main reason i was frustrated is because of what happened last year...
i had just one the tiebraker to get into the final 10. the final competition is just seconds away from starting, and this kid walks in who wasnt where he was supposed to be when they were getting the top 10 people. it turns out he got one more question right than i did in the prelims, so they took me out and put him in!! complete bs in my opinion, cause he was 15 minutes late. when the director told me i had to leave, he said i would get compensation for this, and its a year later and i havent got anything still. so then this year, my mom is standing out in the hallway waiting for me to come out of my prelim competition when the director starts talking to another parent about "last years situation" and says, "Well i hope that same kid isnt in it this year" and my mom got so pissed at him, but didnt say anything. thats why i was upset.

Was this before or after the competition? If it was after, you should've hit him. If before, you should've bided your time, then once you got knocked out, then you hit him. If you'd won, when collecting your prize you could've shouted 'This is for last year you halfwits!' (but possibly with more profanities).

Correct! To be very technical about it, the Republic of China (populraly known as "Taiwan") is the worlds 2nd largest nation according to Panama. Because as you say, the ROC Constitution claims ownership over China, Taiwan, and Mongolia. And Panama recognizes the ROC. (Neither the USA nor Cuba nor Vietnam recognizes the ROC)
Vietnam, Cuba, and Peoples Republic of China - all three communist states - all agree that Mongolia and China are separate nations, particularly becasue Mongolia was communist up til the 90s.

I don't know the ins and outs of water territory laws, but my original question was about the largest land territory. Canada and USA are both larger than mainland China anyways, if you don't include water territory. I'd imagine Canada and USA would stay larger even with water territory, since Canada and USA both have vastly more coastline than mainland China.

Interestingly, there is no long form for Taiwan, so it should be known as Taiwan. To be very technical. :p
To up the ante on the technicalities, the correct long form of Taiwan is "Province of Taiwan", making it a subordinate political entity within the Chinese nation. Both the PRC and ROC Constitutions agree on this terminology, since both agree that Taiwan is not a nation; both agree that China is the nation and the only dispute is with who should rule over all of China. There are of course movements within Taiwan to declare indepedence and call themselves "Republic of Taiwan." But since "Taiwan" is the popular shorthand for "Republic of China" I do support using the word Taiwan as a matter of convenience even though it is technically unconstitutional.:p

and for land territory -
China: 9,326,410 sq km

Ooh interesting, This is something new I have just learned!Sorry, I was checking the definitions it gives for total territory and land territory. Total territory is everything within your borders and coastline. Land territory is the part of your total terrirtory minus inland water bodies ie. lakes, reservoirs and rivers.
