My background is mostly Scotch-Irish (the biggest percentage being Irish), with some Native American (Cherokee and Chickasaw) in the mix. From even further back, there's French, English, and Scandinavian (though very little).

Relying on specific regions to distinguish oneself is flawed unless you can trace your ancestors back to a certain time period. Even then, there's room for error. I'm mainly talking about Ireland, the British Isles, and France. Various peoples inhabited those lands at particular points in time.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The earliest I can really trace my ancestors is about 1720, when two brothers came to America from the British Isles. They were Scotsmen, but even so, there are far more Irish in my family tree.

My moms side of the family is Scotch-Irish, with bits of other European heritages like German and French thrown in for flavor. My dad is half black, with my grandpa being black. Im not really sure about where exactly any of the lineage on my dads side is from, cause both my grandma and grandpa are slightly crazy;)

If you want to know my ethnicity, then it's a lovely mix of various anglo, hispanic and native American (and/or pacific rim, depending how you want to catagorize the natives of the Aleutian islands) flavors with a little African by way of Haiti thrown in for spice. All blended to perfection.

If you want to consider an evolutionary lineage as a race, you may have an argument regarding genetic variation. However the standard taxanomic definition of race ("an aggregate of phenotypically similar populations of a species, inhabiting a geographic subdivision of the range of a species, and differing taxonomically from other populations of the species") not does not apply to any existant population of Homo sapiens sapiens. And the "standard" racial distinctions most posters are applying are not at all based on real genetic variation, but on 18th and 19th century pseudo-science. (In other words, if you want to postulate a division of lineages based on genetic variance, go for it, but racial classification based on self-identification and a misunderstanding of the taxon "race" is useless.)

You know, that is a novel idea, and should work in theory. However, it is not color that separates the races, but culture. Western/Caucasion culture does not mingle well with African, Chinese, Iranian, or Mexican cultures. I don't know why, but it just don't.

It's mostly because of religion, and slavery, and imperialism. Not that other races haven't had those things, but white people (and by "white", I mean everything from Ancient Rome, to the Conquistadors, to the cracker sitting next to you) is just -really- good at it, and has had a lot of practice.
