Sexual harassment in the second grade

An 8 year old boy was forced to attend a hearing and sign a notice of emergency removal that bars him from attending school due to sexual harassment. He grabbed a little girl's ass in gym class.
This zero tolerance crap may have gone a little too far.

It doesn't seem possible to make a perfect law, one that is never unfair. That's all I can say really. No suggestions come to mind.

Let him get it out of his system in elementary school, then he can join the ranks of the rest of us men who only WISH we could grab a girl's ass at the gym.
Thats insane I highly doubt the kid phathomed any type of consequence for his action, at 8 I didn't phathom anything especially about sex, I was too concerned with GI Joe and what would happen to Destro next week.

They should chop that kids hand off. That'll teach him and if it doesnt... well at least he can't grab ass with that particular hand anymore.
This reminds me of this news story about these two girls who got suspended on drug charges. It turns out that when one of the girls was hab=ving an asthma attack, the other let the asthmatic use her inhaler. This violated their school's zero tolerance policy. I wonder if the girl would have gotten murder charges if she just let the asthmatic die?
Then there's the classic story of the boys who got in trouble for sharing breath mints. they were almost expelled for using "drug lookalikes". No telling what would have haooened if it was a twinkie.

No, it's like drugs. You can't go after the user, you've got to take down the supplier. Cut the girl's ass-cheeks off.

The parents are "considering" filing a civil suit? They should do it, show the school district how ridiculous they are.

Now, in some (MANY) cases (abuse, harassment, bullying, etc.) I support a zero-tolerance policy wholehardedly. But this?
This is ridiculous!
The kid didn't even know what he was doing, most likely. If those morons at the district ae sued, I'm on the kid's parent's side.

This is rediculas. Sexual harassment? The kid was prolly just screwing around trying to annoy her or something, I thought everybody did stuff like that when they were that young. I mean ok, put the kid in timeout or something, or dont let him go out to recess for a day, but imposing the zero tollerance bullshit on him and trying to expell him? Thats crap. The sad thing is, the girl most likly doesn't give a shit about it anymore either. One of my friends back in high school got nabbed for zero tollerance because he accidently left a set of num chuks that his grandfather had gotten him as a suvineer in the back of his car (visible through the rear window), and the school said they were deadly weapons and expelled him.
Don't get me wrong, I'm against "real" sexual harassment, but getting in this much trouble over a little ass grab when your 8 and can't even get a hardon off it? Stupid.

Sexual offender at 8 years old? EIGHT YEARS OLD! Poor kid doesn't even know what sex is :( The most rediculous part, though, is that they had the kid sign his first name to leave school. I mean what the hell is that? It amazes me how stupid people are.

I found zero-tolerance to utterly fail when it came to bullying. Often times I was suspended right with my attacker for fighting back. Gotta love a system that punishes the victim as much as the aggressor.

Actually, if you were fighting back and I were a teacher, I would wait until you had given him a lesson, suspended him, and given you a reward. (I wouldn't allow you to put him in the hospital though.) I meant zero-tolerance for BULLYING. Your scenario was self-defense. I do support that.

OK, my knee jerk reaction was that it was the most stupid thing i ever heard to do this to an 8 year old boy. Then I thought about it a bit more, we don't know the background of this story and JUST because it says he is 8 doesnt mean that he is not aware, I worked in a primary school, and we had some children (not many) and one boy in particular, who were WAY more aware than the average child. This boy may have been doing stuff like this for some time, he may very well have become such a potential problem that the school felt it had no choice but to do something to try to get him some help. Please remember that the two boys who kidnapped, horribly sexually assaulted and them murdered 3 year old James Bulger were only 10 years old. maybe this boy is almost 9 and that would make him only just under a year younger than them when they commited this crime. There had been signs in both boys that they had problems before this, maybe this boy has now been 'caught' early enough to stop him becoming a rapist or murderer, I am not saying that is the case, but it is not beyond belief that the staff in this school see something in this boy that concerns them and THAT is the reason for this?
This is only conjecture of course, but just because most children at 8 are not capable of really understanding things like this, don't assume that all of them are.
just my two penneth...
Alright, so even if the kid does have some tendencies that the teachers might have noticed and decided to put a stop to, what exactly does the no tolerance response do to him? The kid faces expulsion, does that teach him to not play grab ass? I don't think that it does. He may know that he got in trouble and chances are he doesn't really understand why. If he does understand why and isn't being punished with anything more than a school change then what is happening to change his tendencies? I think it'd make more sense to talk with him and explain what was wrong about it. If you find that he does understand what he did then you can take steps to correct that. This is more time intensive but it does something about the problem and hopefully instills a sense in him for appropriate behavior in the future. Zero tolerance policy of just getting rid of the problem does little to fix it.

Yet another reason why it's time to get the government out of the education business altogether. The public school system should be scrapped and all schools should be privatized. No more of these asinine (pun intended) policies whose only purpose is to shield school boards from bogus discrimination lawsuits.
How exactly does privatizing schools solve this problem? It isn't just a problem of ridiculous government policy. It's a problem of over-protective and over-reacting parents. If this sort of thing were allowed to go on on even an uncommon basis eventually you would run into a few parents who would be really upset about it. They would complain and get a new policy passed in order to appease them. I don't see how a private school, that would be even more inclined to please parents so as to fund itself would be any better at policy than a public one.

To this extent? I mean I see time out sort of punishment but in this case the crime does not fit the punishment

What? No jail time? If the school is going to overreact and become a mini-dictatorship, then it might as well go all the way.

I still say chop off his little wee wee...Stop him from thinking with his penis.
It doesn't matter how old he is. It is sexual harassment. Next time he might think before he starts touching other people.

I just don't think an eight year old child could be "thinking with his penis." Even if he has some kind of idea about sex or sexuality, he can't experience arousal. Sure he's got the idea that males and females are supposed to hook up together, and maybe, MAYBE, he knows somewhat what that means, but still he's just biologically incapable of acting on sexual impulses. Was it harrasment? Maybe, insofar as an 8 year old is capable of harrassment. Sexual harassment though, I just can't see.
I wonder if any mothers sued their son's for "sexual harrassment", but not for anything they did past age 3, if you catch my drift. That would be so wrong, suing her son for drinking her milk. In this crazy world of "8-year-old sexual beasts" and "drug-look-alikes", anything goes.

I have to ask, for all our curiosity.
What policy?
I used to get thrown out of the locker room naked a lot during phys ed. Especially in my freshman year. It was my own fault, really. But that's a different story. Anyway, The first time it happen, I was incredibly embarrassed. For about two minutes. Then a devious idea percolated in my mind. So I strolled into the nearby music classroom. Mayhem ensued. The best part was that I didn't even get in trouble. The kids who threw me out did. Unfortunately for them, they were football jocks so it took them a while to get the hint that I had found the Golden Ticket. The next few times they did this, I would wander down the hall, pick a likely looking classroom and well... Mayhem would ensue.
But the Principal was a bit craftier than a bunch of High School jocks. He figured out that I was taking advantage of my 'plight'. And demanded that if anybody had any problems concerning them or their personal effects and were not already in a class, that they were to report directly to the office, and not stop in any classes in progress.
The other students referred to it as 'The Rick Rule'.
