Striving for knowledge. Getting people to formulate viewpoints, to let them think about statements greatly enriches my own capacity to learn.

I used to come onto the NS forum because I was bored and I could exchange interesting ideas with intelligent people, then life became hectic. I started coming back because I became ill and there are periods of time when I am too ill to leave the house. TV is so boring.

Nothing shown on Auntie Beeb is quite as entertaining as listening to some folks getting ueberexcited over issues I started to find very boring indeed somewhere around my 18th birthday. Well, apart from The Deal on ITV, maybe.

we talk about politics a lot at home, and I always encourage them to think for themselves. I didn't even bring my views into the discussion until about 2 months ago, because I didn't want to let my bias affect them. However, I get the best of both worlds because there are always a couple of people who don't take any of this seriously and their humor, wit, and sarcasm provides me plenty of entertainment! I only recently started coming here after I got temporarily gimped playing sports and I’m off work or a while (until a few weeks ago my overall posting amounted to 24 posts in 3 years). Outside of Nation States I’m not very active in online forums so I started posting in the General Forum when I had a bit more time on my hands. I like to discuss politics, sports, and philosophy, which occasionally occurs here.

Your actual opinions aren't trivial, just your stupidity. After all, I can't see you (unless I'm taking the time to stalk you), so I'm purely focusing on words. Otherwise, body language is a huge factor. If I can see you acting like you're a prep, run very fast. And watch your legs and arms.

For the baseball bumps.

I read a quote by Einstein that was appropriate, no, not the one about stupidity. This was better ...
"What a person thinks on their own without being stimulated by the thoughts and experiences of other people is, even in the best case, rather paltry and monotonous."

Oh. Fair enough lol. Well, I think I should be fairly safe from you then, being mal and all, acting like a Valley Girl (whatever that it) could prove tricky. Well, I suppose I could do a decent enough impression of one with enough practice, but the whole looks thing... once upon a time it was for debate and serious discussion. then that moved over for entertainment and a bit of fun when i got bored. that, too, moved over to be replaced by somewhere to go and a social life consisting of people i - though strangers - felt i could trust (unlike my RL friends at the time... damn depression  ), and somewhere i could talk about things/problems, somewhere i could get support i could find nowhere else at the time, and somewhere i could be myself. since then NSG has just held a place in my psyche as just... something i do, something i kinda owe something to for helping me through a difficult time in my life last year (specific posters being friends when i had none... you know who you are (those who are still here) :fluffle: ), and also the place where i 'met' my wonderful, beautiful, brilliant, now-RL girlfriend :) :fluffle:

i suppose i just have an emotional attachment to this place - perhaps more so than many - and just have to keep coming back here... its a habit :P

But usually I am looking for a good discussion. Why i look HERE, i have no idea. :D Even if you can get involved in a good discussion with a couple other clear thinkers, the rabble gets too loud to be conducive to staying on point.

for that kind of in depth conversation, i usually go to my region's forum board.

I picked "other" in the poll, but really "all of the above" would have been just as good.

It's fun here, sometimes we talk about important stuff, and I appreciate the other folks around. Besides it adds a bit of variety to NS when the issues start to repeat.

P.S.: There also really could have been a "to procrastinate" option. That definitely would have been included in the "all of the above" or perhaps picked outright.

I've got some kind of mental quota of social interaction (be it physical or electronic or what-have-you) that I have to have with other people, regardless of if they're annoying as hell or awesome conversationalists, that I have to fill in order to keep sane. It's no joke, it's not an exaggeration, it's literally: If I don't have interaction with people SOMEHOW, I'm going to go stab myself in the eye.

I'm a people person.

This forum, along with four other forums I frequent on a daily basis, fill that quota. Usually. Sometimes one of the forums will go quiet for a really long time, for a few days even, and before I had this forum to supplement it I would make a new topic cussing everyone out for not posting more often, and that would usually start conversation. Now I have this place, and it's -never- dead, ever, so I can come here and get my fill whenever I need.

It's either that or spending assloads of money on a psychiatrist, which I can't afford to do. So... yeah. Keep posting, and I don't have to go postal (pun intended) on you guys. =)
