i have never understood the obsession of rp gaming,
massively multiplayer or otherwise, with vicariously
beating each other over the head.

isn't a: the purpose of rp gaming i kind of shaired escapism
and
don't we b: already live in a world in which people go
arround beating each other over the head?

so why can't i find a place to roll play solving the challanges
of creating and maintaining environmentaly sustainable infrastructure
in a post petrolium future, and using tecnology to be creative and
live closer to nature? a world alien or almost alien in its abscence
of familiar idiologies and core cultures? a world with more tecnology
then population, but tecnology such as could and would exist in
such a world?

And I have never understood that cat face you have to include in every post. Is that escapism?

Ever been to Forge? It's a place for role-playing theory where they have games that aren't conflict based but actually have some interesting takes on the process of roleplaying. It's not a gaming site in and of itself, rather a discussion of it, but you can find games like that.

I think an obsession with war conflict shyed me away from actually rping a nation (the name of this one was too silly to rp). I didn't want to rp war. I know there are plenty of people who do way more than that (I know that now) but I lost my frevor...

I am sure there are actually some nonconflcit MMRPGs out there, you might do better to look at some of the more "left field" korean ones, unless you want to be stuck with the sims online...

As for why most of them in volve fighting and competition, well until recently the gamign market was almsot entirely male dominated and we males seem to enjoy being in conflcit and competition with each other and in a way it is pure escapism to go from RL where you can't go around beating people up or shooting them with giant lasers to a world where you can be a totally free gun toting maniac and throw off the shackles of society.

Humans LIKE beating eachother over the head. We're good at it. It's our first love. Will probably be our last love. But you see, beating eachother over the head hurts. And the problem with bashing someone's brains in is that you can only do it once.

But you can PRETEND to bash someone's brains in over and over again.

It's head-beatings without pain. :D

I say that his cat smells, and is ugly!
Anyhoo, I'd like and rpg where people actually role played. Where words such as "lol", "lmao" and "wtf" were banned. And also didn't include clicking on somthing in order to kill it. Where's the skill or fun in that?
