Why has there never been a female World Chess Champion?

Everyone would agree that men are physically stronger than women per se. For example, it would be grossly unfair to expect the ladies to compete with the gents in the US Open Singles Tennis (or any other physical sport).

However, any man claiming that men were stronger mentally would doubtless face an angry backlash to say the least!

If men and women are mentally equally capable- it surely begs the question:

Why has there never been a female World Chess Champion?!?!

Your post answers itself itself. Read it again, carefully.

There are different world championships for men and women. With the upcoming elections for FIDE (the chess world governing body) it is likely there will be sweeping reform in the chess world, very possibly leading to an amalgamation of the two competitions.

Actually, in racing men and women can race in the same categories. There are some in Australian Production Car Championships and the V8 Development Series.

And wasn't there that chick that won a NASCAR race a while back?

She races in the Indy Racing League, which is the oval only open wheel series. Not my favorite, but the oval series are close racing, and that makes for good sport. It's the racing that we're watching, not just a driving demonstration. The track can have loop-de-loops and the cars be powered by flux-capaciters, if the racing isn't close then it's just a demonstration. You can only watch the Harlem Globetrotters for so long...

Now again, the ovals are not my favorite (I'm a big fan of endurance racing, mostly), but ultimately I'm a fan of racing.
