Holy Shit!
I just saw this movie.
(Yes, I'm behind, shut up. I have young children and it's impossible to get to the cinema to see movies anymore, so I have to wait for the DVD release. Bite me.)
What an amazing film.
Intense as hell. I love it. I give it 12 thumbs up!
And the line, "What about Fay? She's the same size!" "Yeah, but she's doing a picture for RKO right now." cracked me up for 20 minutes.
Awesome. If you haven't seen it, do so. Now.

You wanna know what's sad? No one but me laughed at that line at the midnight premiere. If any crowd was going to get that, I would have thought that one would have.
Yeah, I really liked it a lot, it was like a big loving postcard to film. No real holes. I meant to go see it again but never got around to it, so I can't give too detailed a commentary on it, since the last time I saw it was as long ago as can be without being a total insider.

Speaking of remakes, shouldn't we be getting a Manos update soon?

I really liked it as well. I went with some friends, but they were not so impressed - I think they like more violent movies better. :p

Yes! I've actually filmed a few scenes. I'm still trying to get some more women together to do the Master's wives bits, but I've been able to film some of the stuff with just the Master, Torgo, and the family.
I'm thinking I'll do what Hal Warren did and just find a local modeling agency to hire a few girls for some shoots.
I'd give links to raw footage, but unfortunately, only true film buffs would appreciate raw feeds and I'm thinking there're maybe 2 on these forums.

I was blown away when I saw it in the theaters.
The odd thing is, I walked out of the theaters thinking it was one of the best movies I have ever seen, but it didn't really stick with me.
Nevertheless, I greatly enjoyed it.

Also, to you film buffs, my cousin started his own film company called Double-Edge Films based out of Denver.
He released his first full-length film titled 11:59 and it has been making some film festival circuits.
Here is his website (http://doubleedgefilms.com/).
It was an official selection of these festivals:
Method Fest
Montreal World
Cyprus International
Salento International
Annapolis
Are any of those film festivals pretty prestigious?

I was really hyped after I saw the movie, then when I thought about some of the plotholes it wore off.

There were some gratuitous scenes that weren't needed (the bug scene comes to mind), but other than that, I liked it a lot. I did feel sorry for Anne when she was trying to escape from Kong. It seems like she couldn't help but run into the T-rexs.

I haven't looked at his site yet because my connection is pissing me off.
In regards to the festival: Yes and no.
No, in that I've never heard of them (not that that should be a guage by any measure), and yes in that if the festival is more than just 8 yay-hoos and a rented civic center being an official selection helps out a film. I can't tell you how many people I know who managed to get together enough of Mom and Dads and Uncles money and their friends to make a movie, but that doesn't matter a hill of crap without some sort of distribution.
The more festivals the more 'vindication' the film has the easier it is to get a distributer-and those are likely at aleast one of those festivals, so it's all good. If it's his first feature he has every reason to be proud if he's a microbudget filmmaker.

Now that I went to the website and viewed the trailer (he won one fo those festivals, not just selected) I can say that I was being patronizing and for no real cause. That's clean, he knows what he's doing. That's not just "Hey, I got a prosumer camera and some buddies" movie, he made a film. I wish him good luck and if he's ever in NorCal and needs a good PA...

Yeah, I know nothing about the making of films, but I can tell that he has got something serious going on. But I do know that it started out pretty much how you described it. With the film festivals, I don't know if you pretty much get selected by default, or if it is a serious selection, so I don't know if its an honor or not.
I, unfortunately, have not gotten to see the movie, so I can't judge if for myself and have to go by the accolades.
As for wishing him good luck, you would have almost as good a chance as me. He lives on the other side of the country, and the only contact I have is pretty much through his e-mail list and my aunt.
Nevertheless I think it is pretty cool.

It looks solid. Compare it to the kind of stuff bumping around here (http://www.microcinemascene.com/) like this (http://www.doomedtoconsume.com/).

I can only imagine that Doomed to Consume was made entirely for camp value.

There's a ton of that nonsense out there, and you can see them always in job lisitngs asking us to work for "Copy, credit, meal," Oh, and when they totally get paid for thier little masterpiece, thier 'Citizen Kane' for a new era, then you'll be totally hooked up. But the movies are almost always crap, the people making them tend to not know what they're doing and the crew works their ass off for nothing.
Sometimes it's for people who in theory should know better. I worked last year for a producer who had directed a movie that was an indie darling film and he had more or less established himself. He was producing this movie clearly as a favor to a friend and was phoning it in. The crew showed up true believers. By the end of the first week half of them had left. Even with that cat as a producer, your relative's film looks leaps and bounds better.
I'm so jaded by the nonsense films people around here put out and have the audacity to show to actual audiences that it has made me gunshy about getting my own work done. I really have to get over it and just shoot my short and start pimping, I can't be a PA for the rest of my life. But that's a hijack of a hijack, we over shot Cuba by miles...

That move would have been cool if they killed the dumb monkey on the damned island.
The ice skating scene = Total crap!
It was beaty that killed the Beast... Way to go Jack Black

You'd make a Kong movie without the climactic building scene? Why bother calling it King Kong at that point?

I was curious how they managed to get Kong from the water on to the ship with only 2 rowing boats and 10 men...

Son of Kong, if I remember correctly (I'm assuming that is the one where Kong dies on the island). Though he has a sort of point, "Beauty killed the beast" is about the stupidest line in monster movies featuring giant primates.
The thousands of machine gun rounds unloaded into him by attacking planes? Nah, it was that damn broad distracting him with her feminine wiles and she-devil ways.

I think that they meant his inability to let the beauty get away was his undoing. Kongs chase after beauty took him into more and more dangerous situations and ultimately lead to his death. He was king of the jungle until he found the girl.
Of course I did think that the line was cheesy and would have been better left out.

It was a pretty solid effort, I thought, but definately could have had some of the fat trimmed off it.
The film was an hour longer than it really needed to be. On top of this, the special effects were lacklustre at times. There were whole sections of the script that weren't needed (eg, "Heart of Darkness"/"Jimmy"). Plus Peter Jackson seems to have picked up an annoying stylistic habit by frequently slowing down the framerate on moments he thinks are important, (S...K....U....L....L.... I....S...L...A...N...D...) which does nothing but increase the running time. Also, the casting was poor in some cases as certain actors CLEARLY seemed out of place.
Having said that, the final 30 minutes were absolute genius, Kong himself looked incredible, the action was frequently intense and thrilling. Naomi Watts is a Goddess and the bug scene kicked ass!
Oh yeah, the Fay Wray reference was ham-fisted in my opinion. It would have been ok as a quick reference, but the whole lingering take on Jack Black saying "She WOULD!" kinda ruined the moment.
Verdict: Good movie prevented from greatness mostly by failures in post-production.

OMG behind the times!
Even i saw it 2 months ago.
I thought the T-Rex Kong fight scenes were excellent.
Also the Weta's kicked butt but i thought the shooting was pretty godmodish and slapstick.
I saw Billy Elliot and when Gollum was on it i was thinking hmmm ive seen him somewhere before but where.....
I thought she should have got it on with Kong...
Overall i'd say it was a 4/10
If Kong hadn't have died at the end it would have been an 8/10.
If they were trying to get me to cry at the end they failed, if they wanted me to get P/O they succeded.

I thought it was pretty good overall.
I liked it when Kong bit a sailor's head off and then just cast the body aside towards the end. Also, when he kept picking up and slinging blonde women away in New York; that was kind of funny in a warped sort of a way. I mean, it didn't look like they would have survived without serious injuries.
The dinosaur stampede was a bit stupid and it looked 'fake', unlike the rest of the otherwise excellent SFX in the film. Jamie Bell was well out of his depth and I think a better leading man could have been chosen, although Jack Black was ok.
