I'm not familiar with specific viruses, but generally one should run their anti-virus software, such as Norton or AVG. They should know what to do.

If you can get on the internet you are half-way there. Use pandascan or something to delete those. Or download a specific patch or get instructions from a site yourself.

Your best bet is disconnecting from the internet, download the antivirus (I second the AVG mention, it's free) and then install it on the laptop and run it. Some viruses block the antiviruses from working, so that may not work unless you boot-up the computer with a floppy (or maybe a USB stick)

Infact some corrupt Norton and make back-ups. Using an online scan gets most of those however.

Adaware will only remove spyware, its not designed to catch viruses. If you have access to Norten or Symantec anti-virus, install them, but since the virus is already there, I'm guessing you dont. The next best option is AVG. Click the following link and save the file to your computer:

http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_385a729.exe

Then double click on the saved file to install it. It should clean your pc up nicely.

'Virus' :sniper: <-- AVG

Disconnecting from the internet before downloading the antivirus? Thats not even possible.

I hope she has friends. If it's a nasty infection she'll need a second computer.

Without anti-virus software, how have you been able to tell which viruses they are?

Symantec (Norton) has removal tools here:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/global/tools.list.html

They're usually pretty good. I'd recomend getting them on a clean machine and buring to CD. Disconnect the infected machine from the network and run the tools. Run a virus scan as well once you get done running the tools.

If she's on anything later than Windows 98 tell her to turn OFF the system restore. Viruses like to hide in them and let WinXP automatically restore them every start up.

Then sweep again using an online virus checker.

After that, yell at your sister for clicking on an attachment and for not keeping her anti-virus up to date.

she let a friend use her comupter to check her email. the other girl had gotten her own comp infected from a email. and knew what viruses they were, they ended up on my sisters comp to.
its posible that when she ran nortion it told her, but it wanted to make her pay to fix the issue.

Pandascan does have issues with certain ones....let the scan go through. It will catch it.
