All right, all you comic book geeks out there. You know who you are. Now I want to know, which to you prefer, DC or Marvel?

I'm a Marvel man myself, although I will concede that Batman is cool.

Marvel is good for toddlers.

Morals, schmorals.

Gimme the Ultimates and some Surfer/Galactus stories, a bowl of weed and a wing-chair and I'm set.

Marvel trumps DC. The Flash and Batman are all that D.C. gots.

Oooh... a thread of significance! :D

Marvel comics have by far the most compelling superhero's. DC have the two big Icons, but Marvel beats them in everything else. Grew up on X-Men and Ghost Rider comics. Good Stuff.

*sigh*

I was so excited when I heard they were making a Ghost Rider movie. Then I found out Nick Cage was playing him...

Please, the only time DC has ever done anything relevent on social issues is when the Green Archer accused the Green Latern of being a racist. The last time they did anything all that groundbreaking was the Dark Knight series for Batman, and many fans claimed that it didn't even count as Batman since it strayed so far from the norm.

Marvel was the company that finally broke the self-censoring code and put in stuff about drugs in Spiderman, Rampant alcoholism in Iron Man, and crisises of faith such as in Excalibur. Let's not forget genocide in the alternate universes.

Omega Red, The Juggernaut, Wolverine, Taskmaster, Cap Am, Iron Man, Friggen Venom and Friggen Carnage, Mr Fantastic ;) and many many others. Favorites? Hard to say. Maybe Ultimate Hawkeye...

I have to go with Marvel, because I love the X-Men.

Cyclops and Nate Grey are sexy. As is, to a lesser extent, the Beast.

All the more for me then! *licks lips* :p

But I have noticed the poor guy doesn't get a lot of love. He's one of my favourites, though.

Oh, also.. Marvel has (had?) Alpha Flight. There isn't much that beats Canadian super heroes in raw coolness.

Actually, DC published an issue without the comics "seal of approval" in the late 1960's or early '70's that had Green Arrow's side kick shooting up herion on the cover and talked about his recovery from being a junkie. I'm pretty certain that Marvel didn't publish anything without the comics seal of approval until after this DC comic came out. That said, Marvel did push the envelope in the 60's and it was partially in response to that push and a declining readership that caused DC to publish this comic and follow that story line.

Finally, I think Superman & Batman are the ultimate superheros and so I voted for DC, but I will acknowledge Marvel has a "larger stable" of incredible people under it's thumb like the FF, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, X-Men, Spiderman, the Hulk, etc.

I'll have to go with DC on this one. When I actually read western comics, I'm still drawn to the Batman and Superman. Besides, DC is home to John Constantine who is the ultimate bastard, and you can't help but love Death of the Endless in the DC universe. I mean, a cute goth girl like her can come for me anytime.

I wonder, based on the color of the polls, if we should be worried about which is red states and blue states?

I voted DC, because though I love Marvel and they definately did up the cool factor, nothing does it for me like the classics, "I'm Batman!" or"Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound."

Juggernaut has to be one of the coolest names ever.
I vote Marvel, but it has spawned so many unspeakable movies. In its defence though, it did lead to Marvel vs. Capcom which was awesome.

100 Bullets, Preacher, Hellblazer, good stuff...

Although Marvel's latest stab at Punisher is pretty decent.

Close call for me.

I grew up on pretty much equal parts DC and Marvel. Superman, Batman, Green Lantern on the DC side, X-Men and Spiderman for Marvel. (I particularly liked the "Excalibur" strain of X-Men books.)

But, I voted DC, partly because I think they're underappreciated and deserved the vote. You can't even begin to understand the world of the superhero without a serious foundation of Batman and Superman.

DC and Marvel from time to time do pretty neat crossovers (not withstanding the Used Toilet Paper known as Amalgam). I remember an old one where Batman and Superman met up while they both tried to head off a gang war between Kingpin and Ra'as Al'Ghul.

If I have to choose between those two - Marvel, if only because of the X-men. But I really prefer the independents - Have any of you read Fables?

I was never one for superhereos growing up - I always went for WWII military comics, and DC always seemed to be better at that. I loved "Weird War Tales", "Our Army at War/Sgt. Rock", and "G.I. Combat". Most (if not all) of the old titles I read were dropped in the '80s.

Sounds familiar. Except this time they want to register all superbeeings and not just mutants.
But I´ll have to vote Marvel as well.

Voted Marvel.

hate DC tho I did grow up with Wonder Woman. :p

why? simple. it's easy to be a Superhero when you are impervious to anything except Kryptonite and Magic (Superman) or have the resources to build anything you need (Batman)

tho I will give Kudo's to DC on best character death. They had the only Superhero death (and stay dead) that actually brought tears to my eyes.

A "Both suck" option is really sorely lacking.
Independents actually have titles that aren't full of tripe, like e.g. "Spawn".

well... leave it to DC to spoil the only good thin (in my opinion) they had. :(

but her death in Crisis is still the best so far.

So what happened to that Synthetic supergirl that Lex dated???

Spawn! Spawn is awsome. I still have multiple Spawn action figures. Lol. They were the "kick ass, why bother saving people when we can blow shit up" kinda people.
