So today I overheard a political discussion between a left wing, stupid cheerleader who watches too much MTV and a right wing Christian who also didn't know what he was talking about. I did agree with one of them, I won't say which, but the reasons they gave for their support just pissed me off. If you don't know shit about politics, why the hell don't you just shut up?

Anyway, something brought of the issue of Iraq, and the cheerleader girl said, "I don't see why we are still over there dying? It should have been finished by now." No, sweetheart, securing a country takes more than a few short years most of the time when there's a complete overthrow.

The right winger replied, "Well, you just want to let them bomb us?", confusing Al-Qaeda and the insurgency...

The left wing girl then replied, "Well they're going to do it anyway, so why don't we let them." Alright, first of all, if they actually possed a threat, why the fuck would you just let them attack you?

Welcome to democracy folks. The ignorant debating what they don't understand is a time honoured tradition.

Of course, one would hope that the need to best the other person in debate will lead them to look for answers, and evolve into 'real' political thinkers. Or at least better debators.

I think ignorant left-wingers actually annoy me more than ignorant right-wingers. Mainly cos they make me feel unhappy that very stupid people can agree with me.

I swear, they're just as bad on both sides. I'm a communist, but I try really hard to know what I'm talking about and if I don't, I stay out of the conversation. Political ignorance is horrible. I hate the term: war for oil, when it's used as a serious arguement (although if it's used as a slogan or backed up with something else it's ok).

Aye. Hence why I try to stay out of political discussions in general. I would if I could get involved in a discussion whereby the individuals only had a Bachelor's degree or higher.

I tend to ignore the masses of fools and go for the posts made by posters I know to be more seriously-minded. I am still quite young, so I often use the forums as an additional source of information (and opinions).

Well...give them enough credit to say that they were actually talking about something worth talking about and discussing, rather than something else incredibly stupid.

Yes. See I turn on my idiot filter and suddenly 80% of the posts vanish :).

I have to say, though I havent seen anything quite as moronic as that (ok, there was that time they had a tory teen yabbering on about lassiez faire economics, and you just had to wonder if she actually knew what the words that came out of her mouth even meant), I do often hear things on interviews, mostly with people I agree with in principle, that just piss me off. They spout of the same arguments, they dont se the huge holes in another person's argument, and when faced with something they cant cope with they just say"...but... but.... Your policies/ideas/party kill babies/bunny rabbits/cause the end of the world" Sometimes I just want to hit those people.
