Bush to block out the Sun!!

Capitalist pig-dog, George Bush, prompted by his cronies at powerful oil companies, has ordered Dick Cheney to invoke the forces of darkness under his command to block out the Sun tomorrow across a vast portion of Earth that passes through some of the world's most undeveloped countries.

From Brazil, through sub-Saharian Africa and the Middle East, all the way to Mongolia, will be submerged in darkness. That this path crosses much of the Islamic world is no coincidence, but part of the Great Satan's plan.

NOTE: For those of you who have had your sense of humor removed, the above was a joke.

Kidding aside, anyone in the path of the eclipse? Any plans for watching it?

Even if I was in its path, I wouldn't watch it. I wanna keep my eyes, you know.

Looking at an eclipse can cause permanent eye damage, whereas looking directly at the sun for a short amount of time will only cause partial temporary blindness.

Yipes, just yipes. I don't think you're cognisant of how bad you've got it.

The former was a joke and a referance as well.

There are indirect and safe ways to look at an eclipse, you know?

My favorite is projecting the image on a piece of paper using upside-down binoculars. With a bit of work you can get a very nice image of the Sun, sunspots and all. It's more comfortable thant the mylar shades.

Once in totality you can look at the Sun all you want. The corona is not that bright. Otherwise I would have been totally blinded by looking at the total eclipse in Mexico City in 1992, it lasted for several minutes.

But in the Triffids, that was after a meteor shower I believe, not an eclipse... The meteorshower blinded all the people then the world was seeded with lovely plants of carnivorous excellence

In The Day of the Triffids, the rapid growth of the Triffids was caused by a strange meteor shower, not an eclipse. :p

And TG's watching the eclipse, maybe he'll come back and share pictures!

In one of the remote places I was posted to when I was in the military, we were captured by cannibals. They were going to cook us, but just before they could light the fire, there was a total eclipse. They begged us to bring back the sun, so naturally we did, and they worshipped us as jolly, green giants. :D

Indeed, though actually the meteor shower was more directly responsible for the blinding of earth´s population, which is why the main character after waking up in the hospital after having not witnessed the meteor shower, is one of the few who can still see how the world has been turned into a hunting ground for carnivorous plants

Fortunately for us (some days) none of these imps guys can handle technology t better than a third grade level. Look at Cheneys grasp of the simple physics behind gunpowder or the fact that a large portion of their base believes the Sun revolves around the Earth.

:sniper:

Besides, they probably feel a giant leech is eating the Sun and will sacrificae an entire country to stop it.

Yeah, I think it's only the easternmost parts of Brazil where it'll be visible. Plus it'll probably be very short there, a few seconds at most.

And as we all know, if you look at the eclipse, and suffer eye damage, that's Bush's fault as well, lol.
