The fella doesn't seem quite so untouchable of late, even if he *bafflingly* still has so much support ...

DeLay aide got thousands from non-profit
The Washington Post
Published March 26, 2006
WASHINGTON -- A top adviser to Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) received nearly a third of all the money collected by the U.S. Family Network, a non-profit organization the adviser created to promote a pro-family agenda in Congress, according to the group's accounting records.
DeLay's former chief of staff, Edwin Buckham, who helped create the group while still in DeLay's employ, and his wife were the principal beneficiaries of the group's $3.23 million in revenues, collecting payments totaling $996,754 during a five-year period ending in 2001, public and private records show.
The group's revenue was drawn mostly from clients of Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to its records. An FBI subpoena for the records appears to indicate the bureau is exploring whether the payments were linked to favorable legislative treatment of Abramoff's clients by DeLay's office.
In recent months, Abramoff pleaded guilty to charges of tax fraud and conspiracy; DeLay has stepped down from his post as House majority leader; and Buckham has folded his lobbying firm.

So far, Abramoff has stated that he "has no derogatory information" about DeLay ...

I'm betting that Abramoff is singing like the fat lady about DeLay and his lawyer is lying about it to the press. Abramoff's sentencing is directly tied to his cooperation, and his sentencing trial hasn't started yet--the judge refused to expedite it like Abramoff's lawyers wanted.. The judge and the PA no doubt wanted to hold off on sentencing as long as possible in order to make sure that Abramoff didn't start forgetting stuff once he knew how long he'd be in the pokey.

Former Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff is expected to soon be subpoenaed to answer questions about the mob-style killing of Gus Boulis in 2001. Months before the killing Abramoff and a partner bought the Sun Cruz Casinos from Boulis. Abramoff has never been charged in the killing but a lawyer for one of the men accused of the crime wants to question Abramoff in court.

So many scandals, not enough time. Raw Story is reporting that Rove is busily selling out Scooter Libby in the Plame case, no doubt to save his own ass. The gifts just keep on coming.

Here you go (http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Roves_cooperation_seen_to_advance_inquiry_0327.html).
Karl Rove, Deputy White House Chief of Staff and special adviser to President George W. Bush, has recently been providing information to special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the ongoing CIA leak investigation, sources close to the investigation say.
According to several Pentagon sources close to Rove and others familiar with the inquiry, Bush's senior adviser tipped off Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald to information that led to the recent "discovery" of 250 pages of missing email from the office of Vice President Dick Cheney.
Rove has been in the crosshairs of Fitzgerald's investigation into the outing of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson for what some believe to be retaliation against her husband, former U.S. Ambassador to Gabon, Joseph Wilson. Wilson had been an ardent critic of pre-war Iraq intelligence.
While these sources did not provide any details regarding what type of arrangements Rove's attorney Robert Luskin may have made with the special prosecutor's office, if any, they were able to provide some information regarding what Rove imparted to Fitzgerald's team. The individuals declined to go on the record out of concern for their jobs.
According to one source close to the case, Rove is providing information on deleted emails, erased hard drives and other types of obstruction by staff and other officials in the Vice President's office. Pentagon sources close to Rove confirmed this account.
None would name the staffers and/or officials whom Rove is providing information about. They did, however, explain that the White House computer system has "real time backup" servers and that while emails were deleted from computers, they were still retrievable from the backup system. By providing the dates and recipient information of the deleted emails, sources say, Rove was able to chart a path for Fitzgerald directly into the office of the Vice President.I wonder if Cheney's going to come down with a mysterious case of the resignation in the next few months?

EDIT: Cheney, Rove and Wolfowitz all ought to go hunting with Bush on one of Bush's many, many "vacations".

It has occurred to me that this may well work out to the Republicans' benefit. Bear with me for a sec.
Cheney gets fingered and has to go--the stench gets so bad that even Congressional Republicans, fearful for their jobs, start calling for his resignation. The natural choice for his replacement, right now, is Condi. She's the silver bullet, solves all sorts of issues for the Republicans. She's relatively untouched by scandal, the Dems wouldn't fight her, and the Republicans get to play a legitimate race card for once. She's also, because she's never been a politician, not as likely to parlay that into a nomination in 2008, and so will be seen as less of a threat by the Republican leadership.
Now, let's assume, as I play this scenario out, that she's confirmed and that the Dems take both Houses of Congress (for shits and giggles). Investigations are immediately opened into all sorts of crap--faulty intel, NSA spying program, energy policy, you name it--and Bush is even more embattled. Rice solves two problems. The first is that no one wanted to go after Bush because you wind up with a President Cheney. The second is that you might get a fidgety Republican or two to go along with pressuring Bush to leave because you've Condi sitting between Bush and a President Pelosi (and you could have video of Cheney fucking Bush while wearing a Che t-shirt and screaming Viva la Revolucion and you wouldn't get Republican senators to vote for that). Suddenly, the Republicans are a lot cleaner going into 2008.
Yeah, that's more than a little far-fetched. :D

Well, some of it is more far-fetched than other parts! Some of it is just titillating ;)
