The other poll brought to mind this question that I've been pondering, but I can't seem to decide which.
So, which is better?

Never gonna read that. I eventually drop by and remark about how in hell everyone's keeping the thread alive, but other than that, it's nothing to me.

Soundgarden, no contest.
Audioslave's first album was ok, but Out of Exile was good. However, even the best Audioslave doesn't come anywhere near anything off of Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, or Down on the Upside.
I mean, Soundgarden had Thayil, Cornell (who, I must say, is a pretty good rhythm guitarist), and Cameron. Plus, Cornell's voice sounded better back then. It just seems a little thin to me now, for some reason.
Soundgarden was one of the best bands of the 90s.

I agree. Cornell really wailed in his day. Nothing on Audioslave compares.

IMO The Offspring were the best band of the 90's.

Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun"
Plus all the others like Fresh Tendrils, Superunknown, Pretty Noose, Zero Chance, Dusty, Blow Up the Outside World, Burden in my Hand, Switch Opens, Overfloater, My Wave, Fell on Black Days, Spoonman, Like Suicide...
Though I will say that I have both Audioslave CDs as well, and I like most of the songs on those too ("Doesn't Remind Me" has got to be one of my favorites ever). They just don't have so many hits that I really like as Soundgarden does; give em time though...

My 1/6 of a bit here ...
Soundgarden had better and more innovative writing for a much longer period.
As well, Chris's voice was quite impressive.
However, the live shows were on and off.
Audioslave has a more straightforward approach, with the intent of less noodling and experiment and more rock.
Chris's voice is settled in the consequence of the years and works for the band.
However, the live shows are dead on, and quite impressive.

Soundgarden. Naturally when a good band combines with a lesser band, the combination band will be somewhere between those two bands in quality.
Soundgarden were one of the best bands of the '90s (and 80s, though I shan't be anal), and Superunknown is easily in my top 10 albums from that decade.
By comparison, Audioslave is pure, unadultered cock rock.
Soundgarden FTW.
