I've been thinking...I love my freedom and all, but where's my snappy uniform? I mean, only the fascists get the cool ones, ours are just sappy....

The snappier the uniform, the more likely an army is to lose a war, in such a way as to lose the whole country.

When you are a freedom fighter your clothing is quite probably designed for maximum efficiency and durability. Not for coolness and external display.

Leather boots, chains, leather jackets enforced with metal studs, skull motiffs a mohawk that can kill pierce metal, loads of projectiles (mostly beer bottles) It's not only a cool uniform, it also scares the crap out of the enemy

Well yes obviously the British army no longer deploys cavalry dressed in bright red with breast-plates and sabres to actual combat environments.

Everyone knows that 'the bad guys' have to have cooler uniforms. It's just tradition. I mean, when was the last time you watched star wars? Would you rather wear a stormtrooper outfit, or that blue outfit with the black vest and white bicycle helmet?

Nazi's were inherently cool dressers. Makes for good movies.

OK, in Star Wars, the Stormtroopers have the coolest uniforms.

But in reality, I would take an American uniform over a German one any day.

And why not? A Cavalry Squadron sweeping through the plains of the Iraqi desert, hunting down the insurgents to the sound of a hunting horn, sabres rising and hacking down, sun gleaming off their bloodied blades - exactly what Iraq needs at the moment; screw the tanks malarky.

The snazziest uniforms I've seen have had nothing to do with politics, unless you count S&M and leather bars as political, which they very well can be at times.

Anyway - to come back to the OP - it is something of a running joke where I come from.

Interestingly enough, many actors have described that they start feeling different when they put on a German uniform and some of the crew have said that their posture has also changed just by putting on a piece of cloth. Fascinating, isn't it?

The SS did have fabulous uniforms. A little too fabulous. They were probably worried sick about getting them dirty. add in the stress of war and youv got a surefire recipe for OCD.

I always thought the KISS Army had the scariest uniforms. Trust me, you see a bunch of guys with guns dressed like this and your soldiers will run for it.

I always thought it was more like Soviet Communism. Commissars in the army (actually, those guys have pretty cool uniforms), penal batallions, random slaughtering of populations at the merest hint of opposition...

Meh, I mock all uniforms. I think it's better to be on the side of the freedom fighters, they don't have any uniforms and usually less money so they wear everything they can find, wich gives freedom fighters such a cool look, one of freedom, freedom also to wear what you want.

Well seeing as the Swiss mercenaries were the most sought after military men until the Swiss constitution outlawed the practice in 1859 (IIRC due to pressures from other European states. The just kicked ass that bad.)

Given the tactics generally used by the various types of insurgents in Iraq, I would assume that the life expectancy of that Cavalry Squadron would be rather short. Nothing says "Gentlemen, I'm afraid the hunting party's over..." like for example a suicide bomber or the rather common ambush.

American fashion designers merely want us to look like identical (and "ironic") idiots while they steal our souls, which makes the US better than the EU.
