Gah, I already have so many pseudonyms... I'm fairly competent in French and Japanese, so I usually use pseudonyms derived from those areas... for example, my most commonly used name has been Fujieda Saeko. A lot of the time I'll also use the name Alice because it ties in with my first name.

If I were to be meeting someone face-to-face, I'd probably call myself Alice Behrends because that surname is my grandmum's maiden name.

Okay, so for real-

I figure if Prince can change his name to a symbol (http://dmsr75.free.fr/ressources/musique/prince/symbol.gif) then I figure I can change my name to a smell.

My name is going to be the smell of lilacs gently roasting in a white wine sauce with a touch of vanilla. In order to say my name you must spray that sent in the air, to write it requires a scratch-n-sniff. To broadcast it you must describe the scent in detail. It would have its advantages-I could walk in a room and know people have been talking about me...

well, 3/4 of the people in the book know me as Smunkee so they might put 2 and 2 together, then there are 3 characters who are actually family who know my real name (yes, I do have cousins who think my legal name is Smunkee)

anyway, I thought of one, but I shouldn't say it on here since you all will know who it is when/if the book comes out and then connect it back to Smunkee and I get sued anyway. LOL

my real name is themnax. my legal name, the one on my birth cirtificate, that my parents gave me is not. i've used the name themnax in digital communictions as long as there has been such a thing. it, and not my 'legal' name, is who i think of myself as.

it is my personal belief that everyone should give themselves their real name; one that is not directly derived from any other person, place or thing, other then as how they personaly relate to them in thier own real intrinsic nature.

i have other names also. spirit names and of personas, but themnax is who i am.

i have no strong objection to being called "anything other then late for dinner", my given name included, but my PREFERENCE is to go by themnax, which you will find i have done everywhere online other then where my mundane name was required.

Why not just change your legal name to your chosen name and save any confusion?

No other names for myself, many nicknames over the years but I'm lucky, my parents gave me an unshortenable first name that I actually like and seems to fit me.

Anyway the girl serving me gave me her business card. I had to double check when I read it.

No joke. That's her real name. Her parents called her Fuk Ng! For Christ's sake, didn't they realise! Didn't anyone tell them!
There's no way you can say it without it coming out bad. Even if you try to pronounce it Cantonese (Fuk is kinda pronounced Fook), then it just sounds like you have a Scottish accent.

That is true, but a name is permanent- it's there whether or not I choose to use it. It's my identifying mark, the thing other people can use to refer to me when I'm not using it. Somehow, I just don't know a smell can stay permanent.

But you don't wear your name either, unless you're playing a sport. There is nothing tattooing your name to yourself other than people associate those sounds in that order to indicate you. In my case, the only real difference would be that instead of a series of sounds, it would be a combination of smells.
