CARACAS, - Venezuela's government has accused U.S. authorities of protecting a Cuban exile who Caracas wants extradited to face trial for a 1976 plane bombing that killed 73 people.

The U.S. ruled on Wednesday that Posada Carriles, who was detained by U.S. authorities last May after illegally slipping into the country from Mexico, would stay in custody.

Caracas, which has strained relations with Washington under leftist President Hugo Chavez, rejected this an attempt by the United States to avoid its request for extradition of Posada, a naturalized Venezuelan and former
CIA operative

"We again call on the White House to honor its international treaty obligations and either extradite or prosecute Posada Carriles for 73 counts of first degree murder," the Venezuelan embassy in Washington said in a statement dated Wednesday.

A U.S. judge ruled in September that Posada could face torture in Cuba or Venezuela and should not be deported to those countries.

My comments (these are for you Fass)
#1) Torture in Cuba? really? ;)
#2) Carriles is/was on CIA payroll.. or not?
#3) Carriles is a Citizen of Venezuela. Is he not?

Gotta love that. A bit macho, but funny.

As to the topic:
Torture? Yeah, right...
CIA payroll? Kinda smells like it. In fact, I'm willing to bet that he committed terrorism on CIA orders.
Citizenship? Hand him over, Shrub.

Time for the US to drop the double-standard and pony up the terrorist. Or does terror not matter (in Mr. Cheney's opinion) if its Venezualans being killed?

In this great country, we do not torture people! We send them to other countries to do it.
