Which team will win the UEFA Cup?

We is really happy o'er here in Romania: two Romanian teams have made it to the quarter-finals (best result for any Romanian team since 1987, when Steaua won the European Super Cup - after being the Champion's League winner). Intrestingly, the two teams are facing each other. But, as countless soccerologists in Romania have pointed out, the good news is that a Romanian team will make it to the semi-finals for sure... and then, perhaps...

Aaaaanyway... perhaps this thread will not interest anyone, but I'm gonna post a poll, and you get to pick the one team you think will win the Cup.

Well, yeah. But I'd cheer for anyone from Roman... actually, I'm not that patriotic. I think that Rapid stands a better chance.

I went for the 'Boro, as they seem to be having the run of the green in cup competitions this season.

They played well against Roma in both legs, although Roma were unlucky not to grab the 3rd goal they needed to go through. That said, I felt justice was done a Mancini should have been sent off for the elbow to Mendieta so it all evens out.

That said, out of the choices, Schalke, Steau and Seville all stand a good chance.

And now watch them all go out and someone else win it...

Well, Steaua beat Betis 3-0. And Levski beat Udinese 2-1. Rapid kicked the shit out of Hamburg.
These are all surprises.

True, but look how Betis and Udinese are doing in their own leagues...both are 17th and moral has a definite impact on how you play. But I agree, both were upsets of a kind.

Rapid beating Hamburg though :D Hahahahahahaha, hehehehehe, losers... ;)

And rememeber 'Boro beat the form team of the Italian league who had won 11 in a row and drawn once prior to those games.

Probably will be Rapid instead of Steaua.

I'm going to say Schalke 04. I have a soft spot for them since managing them on CM. Whether or not they're actually any good is another matter, but having looked at some bookies' websites, they seem to be favourites. So long as Middlesbrough do shit so there's no one calling for Steve McClaren to be the next England boss. He's shit! We need either Psycho or Peter Taylor.
So, yeah. Schalke for me.

McClaren for England boss...

*watches pig fly*

Ohhhhhhhhh...

He's not going to get it, 'boro's performance in the PL shows he shouldn't even be considered. That said if Curbishly gets the job, thats our chances for the next Euro's gone...

If we need to get someone English* then I think Martin Allen should be considered. He's worked wonders at Brentford in the past couple of seasons.

*I don't think we do. The arguments about foreign coaches not understanding the 'passion' needed for the job are flawed - any foreigner who understands anything about English football knows the passion we have for it. Unless they are as thick as two pieces of dog crap, they would be passionate about the job themselves. England may not be the best football team in the world, but in terms of the support and level of interest in football in this country, the English job is the best job in world football management.

I don't think we need an English manager either, what we need is a manager who can at least motivate the players in a better fashion than SGE currently does. And also tactical knowledge might be useful too, although god knows the F.A. don't really take this into account, bent bastards the lot of them, bar Trevor Brooking.

Staua has some Australians in the team. One of them, who plays for the national team, has been sent to train with a squad in the third division because he is crap. For real.

Boro I sincerely hope, and, for once it is plausible. Mclaren can, with the fit squad he now has, both climb the league and make an attempt at the UEFA cup. Moreover, he must have the most potent attack remaining in the competition with Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Viduka, Rochemback, Downing and Mendieta, who still contrived to score several times against Roma, the competition favourites.

3-0 down on aggregate and they score 4 to make it 4-3. Brilliant :D

It was made even better by having a group of 8 of us in the pub who kept the faith whilst others drifted if, only to be rewarded with one of the greatest comebacks of the past two weeks ;) (if any body saw the middlesborough vs. Basel game you'll know what I mean)
