Quit sleeping. Or, if a life time of permanent insomnia seems like too much, then leave all your work to the last minute, forcing you to blitz through 10 page reasearch papers at 2 AM the night before they're due so that, when you finally do go to sleep, you only get about 2 hours and are to exhausted to dream about anything.
Works for me.

Normally, I'd engage in a bit of penis waving regarding my success with this method, but I really should start work on my English paper.
Ahw, fuck it, I still have about 10 hours left.

Another success story to add to the long list for the Fiddlebottom's Method of Problem Solving. Rather than present a working solution, remind the troubled person of all the other problems that they have, in addition to the original one.

Stop touching yourself. It makes baby Jeebus cry and when he cries you get the nightmares.

My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.

Well, first we thought you just had to kill the dude in the dream, but then it turned out you had to re-bury the bones or something...but really you just have to put him up against another horror movie theme villian...

Man, if I was a bigger fan of horror I can't help but think that would have been funnier...ah well...

Dreams come from your brain, obviously. Lots of people say that dreams are your brain 'taking a dump' so to speak, getting rid of the excess imagination and thought patterns you go through on a daily basis. A recurring dream is something that's not your normal dream cycle, something that's on your mind, but something that you're not paying any attention to. I'd suggest some deep introspective searching, prayer/meditation/counceling/whatever and get to the core issue from your dreams, and then confront it. Once you acknowledge the problem and start working towards fixing it, your brain will stop trying to handle it in other ways.

Trust me on this. I've got PTSD. It's not only nightmares, all sorts of physical, emotional and mental issue occur when your brain is trying to distract or deal with something that you've no intention of admitting.

Good luck. Keep strong. Sometimes confronting yourself can be difficult.

Don't eat cheese before you go to bed. Do lots of exercise. Drink some relaxing herbal tea before you go to bed. Don't watch horror movies. Read something humorous before beddy-times. Spend a few minutes meditating before sleep. relaxing your mind and body.

If all that fails, down a bottle of vodka.

This is probably going to sound nuts to you, but having been there myself, I found the best way was to embrace them. They literally drove me to the point when I was very young that I accidently learned to think about the dream before I went to sleep and concentrated as hard as I could on adding another chapter to it each night. While i couldn't control what the new content was, I was able to pick a place where things were not so bad and wake myself up.
I know it sounds strange but I now look forward to bad dreams. I'm not a nutcracker so I don't know what they would say to this, but it did work for me and has served me well for many years.

Before going to sleep, run through the nightmare in your mind, but imagine one particular bit happening differently (for example, if someone is trying to kill you in the nightmare, imagine something that stops them doing so). If you do this frequently enough (imagining changing the same thing each time), then eventually when you have the nightmare, the change you imagined will occur. It'll take a while though, because to start with the memory of the actual nightmare will be stronger than the memory of the changed version. (The same technique works with lucid dreams, by the way.)

Ha, did. *dances and waves paper in the Universe's general direction*
Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair for I am king of the last second all-nighter. The Prince of Procrastination, Lord of Deadlines and the Ayatollah of Rock and Roll-ah. I'm not sure how that last one fits in, but victory is mine nonetheless.
Now I just have to stay awake in class and manage to continue not losing my mind.

Annyway, back on topic.

make your self sleep through them, eventualy they wil go away.
the other thing you could do is sit down with one of your really good friends who you know will listen and tell them about your dreams, for some reason this helps annoying dreams go away.

or get a cat.
