Know any movies that are good to watch when you're stoned (or bored)?

I say "The 5,000 Fingers Of Dr. T"

The 5,000 Fingers Of Dr. T (1953)
Unusual musical fantasy, co-scripted by Dr. Seuss, follows a young boy's nightmares about his tyrannical piano teacher. Hans Conried is the fiendish Dr. Terwilliker, who keeps 500 boys locked in his bizarre castle and makes them practice day and night. The often surreal cult favorite for all ages co-stars Tommy Rettig, Peter Lind Hayes, Mary Healy. 92 min.
It's trippy.. thats all I can say.. trippy..

There is this book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385478372/102-5223655-8321762?v=glance&n=283155).

But my choices are-
Lawrence of Arabia is nice and stoney.
Road movies, stoney.
2001, stoney.
The Adventures of Baron Muchausen, stoney.
Brady Bunch Movie, which I was sure was going to suck really bad (especially since I don't like The Brady Bunch is Stoney.

So many movies are stoney, it'd be easier to list movies that you shouldn't watch stoned...

Based on the first five minutes, I may need to be stoned to finish this movie. "Where the Buffalo Roam," starring Bill Murray as Hunter S. Thompson. It's not good right now.

It doesn't get much better. I bought it and watched it once, 8 years ago. It's not horrible, just not remarkable...

That's the worst. I mean, there's really something to be said for the remarkably bad film, the one that takes chances and none of them pan out and it turns into a train wreck. Mediocrity is inexcusable.

waking life definatly got to me...the entire dream theory thing was a bit much for an already messed up trip. I kept thinking I was dead and staring at clocks waiting to see them with a random pattern of lights or something

Cum! Cum! Cum! Cum!

sorry, I had to. haha
I watched that movie the first time stoned. Made me decide never to do heroin or most of the other drugs in it. If you want to really really mess with yourself, read the book. You know how the movie makes you down for the rest of the night? Well, the book depresses you for a good 2 months after. It is like a trainwreck. You just can't peel your eyes away.

The part that got me most was the mother...so sad.

edit: oh yeah. Best line of the movie...

As one with lots of exeperience in watching movies while stoned, I recommend:

1. 2001, A Space Odyssey - a total trip
2. Brainstorm (Natalie Wood's last film)
3. Altered States (Mushrooms made John Hurt a star)
4. Fantastic Planet (adult animated film set in the future where humans are pets)
5. Rocky Horror Picture Show - great fun
6. Jesus Christ Superstar - fantastic music that tells a story (belief is not an issue)
7. Monty Python & the Holy Grail - you'll wet yourself you laugh so hard
8. Cheech & Chong, Up in Smoke - You'll identify with it when stoned
9. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes - good for a truly "stupid stoned"
10. Yellow Submarine - The forgotten stoner classic

That's enough for now.

If you can get past the cheesyness (I bask in it, but anyway) the Tim Rice lyrics are a compelling take on the story, to do that from Judas' point of view, to make him a sympathatic character is actually pretty cool. And funk-ay.

I couldn't say it better. Though, the Cheesiness is due to the time period in which the film was made I do believe. There is a "new" film of it that shows up on Educational TV sometimes that eschews the setting of the old film version in favor of a more modern look that is really good.,

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Man that movie's great when you're stoned.
Original or remake?
Original's pretty dark. YOu could have a bad time watching that one stoned.

"Meet the Feebles". It's practically a pre-requisite to be stoned when watching this masterpiece. There's almost no way one could handle it straight.

The first one is called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and I love that one stoned. Gene Wilder's disinterested "No. Stop. Don't." is great when baked...

I haven't seen the other one you mentioned so I deleted your reference to it like it never happened.

well, technically, the new one isn't a remake, it is going back to the original story. But I digress.

Best part is "We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."
It seems so philosophical when stoned off your ass.

That and the word "Schnozberries"

What it does to your munchie cravings is out of control, though...

And don't buy into the packaging. The book was made into a movie once, then made again, or 'remade'...Of course Burton took a different take and interpretation, why else bother? (desperately hoping to avoid a hijacking discussion of Gus Van Sants Psycho) It always strikes me as music sticklers getting figety when someone says classical music without specifically refering to the classical period of composition...This response brought to you by my belief that Burton is too far up his own ass more than anything (though I loved Big Fish...)

Then you're missing out on one of the best stoner movies ever made. Think of it as muppets on acid. Literally. One of the muppets is a crocodile junkie knife thrower suffering from vietnam war flashbacks. Full of gross stuff - drug taking, beastility, violence, disease, gore, inter-species sex, porn, criminal activity and morris minors.
Oh, and a great song about sodomy.

Full of great quotes too:
"This is a lovely golf course, I'm tempted to join the club."
"I'm afraid you can't."
"You mean they discriminate against Scots?"
"No, they just don't want assholes in the clubhouse."

Trevor: "Didn't you notice you were sitting on his face!"
Madame Udder: "Well, it was a bit uncomfortable but I thought it was my hemorrhoids."

I tend to enjoy burton, but thats because he's about as twisted as I am, and that is perfect for that book.
While, of course, the movies are similar, there are striking differences, such as the lack of music in the modern one. Granted, I don't particularly remember the new one (and fittingly for this thread, that is exactly why) but I see it as being like the thousands of versions of any Shakespeare play. There are 14 movie versions, if I count correctly, that have the name "Othello", not to mention the movies based off of it.

I agree about the classical thing tho. The only one that trips me is Beethoven. I say his early stuff is classical, late stuff is romantic.

But maybe it's because of my bad taste. Most people I ask doesn't even know that movie. It's with John Lurie, Tom Waits, Roberto Benigni ....
