I know asking whether you are Left or Right is pretty much pointless and often draws trolls to posts.
BUT
(Assuming you agree with even a little tax.)
Where should it be spent?
Education?
Military?
Maintenance?
Welfare?
Argue your case and awnser my sexy sexy poll.

Maintanence because well...what's the point in dropping massive amounts of money into any of the other categories if you don't have the infrastructure to get those goods or services to the people.

You'll all love the I.S.P :p

We think Education is soooooo important we should allocate a pound toward it for EVERY other pound we allocate toward something else.

...
which is a posh way of saying 50%

I want a multiple choice poll.

Scratching that, Education.

It improves society by giving you smarter people who are more capable of thinking for themselves. It also helps towards a good healthcare, as more people are likely to be educated to become doctors. It helps towards maintainance of public services, as the workers that perform it don't do silly things (like dig up road, fix gas pipes, close road, dig up road, fix water pipes, close road, dig up road, fix road... How Stupid can you get? why not just: dig up road, fix gas and water pipes, fix road)

It reduces crime, because people don't become as desperate (they'll always feel they have somewhere to go, even if that place is just some university), although it isn't true for everyone.

While I don't agree with militaries, smart infantry soldiers and officers are better than the stupid ones.

Adminstration is much more efficient with educated people.

Why would anyone spend tax money on religion? Could be an optional tax I guess (like they have in Denmark, where you pay a minimal amount of tax towards church maintainance, but you can opt. out if you want).

Cookies Are MUCH better when they cooked by educated people.

Welfare isn't that necessary if people know what to do when they don't have a job :D That, and welfare is easier to provide when society is more productive/educated and usually less needed.

Business and farming subsidies are slightly ridiculous. Slightly. Anyway, you wouldn't need that many subsidies if you had people who got more out of less.

Well, that's a bit utopian, but education is where it's at :D

The Police Force, because without law and order; education healthcare and all the others are useless.

What's the point in trying to teach kids or heal the sick if there are looters and armed gangs roaming the streets?

No taxation is justified in any way. So I like cookies on this one. (You can not assume that we will accept even minimal taxation.)

Public goods in general, the kind of things which are not really feasible to finance on a personal basis.

Physical infrastructure, education, law and order, defense.

The basic priority ( but not necessarily the item that needs the biggest slice of the pie ) would be Law and Order, being the item most.. symbolic... of the State, it's reason for being from the citizen's point of view.

Education, police, healthcare, and military all about the same. Not much stomach for much else.

From the Federal Government

1. Military
2. Administration

From the State

1. Education
2. Healthcare/Welfare
3. Maintenance
4. Police
5. Administration
5. Subsidies

I would vastly prefer the Federal Government not to have any part in the things that aren't listed under it. But while I'm at it, I may as well wish for world peace and to date Halle Berry. They're all about equally as likely.

Taxes should include religions so long as they continue to attempt to influence public policy through implied (or in some cases, direct) candidate or party coercion. You wanna play? Pay the gate.

As for where it goes, we're in a race between education and catastrophe. Following that, infrastructure.

If I could have multipul picks I would have to say:

1. Heathcare (NHS needs Hugh Reforms)
2. Military (Mainly Intelligence services)
3. Education
4. Healthcare/Welfare (a rise in Job Seekers Allowance would be nice! :D Only Joking I work Nights)

Firstly, I would reduce all taxation to a flat rate either 7 times the rate of inflation, or a figure between 10 and 15%. But how is this tenable you enquire? As follows:

-privatise all healthcare beyond emergency centres, with a sliding scale of subsidiary payments to the lower orders.

-remove all welfare beyond an old age pension extending to sixty, and incapacity benefits. Single parent dear.... not my problem, abortions would beree. Moreover, unemployment benefits would be payed for the first two months of unemployment, subsequent to which no payments would be made.

- reform a two tier education system, with higher pay for teachers, and higher funding for the grammar schools. Moreover, university education would be free, funded through the surfeit money the welfare reforms would leave, and vocational subjects, including computing, would be considered half of an academic subjets qualification.

1) Education.
2) Military.
3) Police.
4) Roads and that.

Otherwise I'd pick "None of the above". I would much prefer it were just never taken from the voters in the first place. The above is all that the state should really be involved in in any major way/

1. Education
2. Maintenance
3. Healthcare
4. Police
5. Military
6. Administration (mainly for enforcing regulations on business)
7. Welfare
8. Subsidies
9. Cookies
10. Religion

Law and Order was not on the poll but I would put it between police and military.

Everything except subsidies, religion and the military.
You think that there should be no military?

Taxes should include religions so long as they continue to attempt to influence public policy through implied (or in some cases, direct) candidate or party coercion. You wanna play? Pay the gate.

Do most religions even do this? In fairness...

I say spend enough on education to give each kid a good per capita voucher, then put all of the rest into infrastructure, research grants and the military.
