The Funniest Line Ever On TV
In the Daily Show, while John Stewart was imatating Bush when he was answering a question about the apocalspe, he said "Uh...well, I've got a Christian base, but I have to look sane...I've got it!" :D

That doesn't make any sense.

None of those quotes were very funny. At all.
But, Arrested Development is the funniest TV show. See, I first loved the simpsons. Then, I watched Family Guy, before it was canceled the first time, and became one of those fans who demanded it back on. Thanks to people like me, you people get to see it. Then, I saw Arrested Development. Ever sence, I've gotten all the DvDs and watched it all. Family Guy is kinda funny now, and the Simpsons plain sucks. But now, Fox might cancel that show, too, just like they did do to Family Guy. Hmm. . .

Partly because he has a typo (or just flat got it wrong), it should read...but I still have to look sane.
It was in response to someone asking if terrorism, 9/11, and Iraq where signs of the apocolypse and he had to think about the answer. I thought it was funny, but not even the funniest thing on that episode.

There are millions of lines of hilarity in most of the abstract [adult swim] shows - Space Ghost, Sealab, 12 Oz. Mouse, Perfect Hair Forever, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, Squidbillies, Tom Goes to the Mayor, etc. However, many of them don't work out of context (even many that didn't really have any context in the first place - you really had to be there), but I think my favorite may be from a FOX News broadcast:
"Well, we've got our affiliate station's helicopter out there....we should be able to see the plane in the water any second now...We obviously don't have any control over our affiliate's camera....well, that plane should be in the shot sometime."
I laughed for a full five minutes. I think most of it was the realization that if you look at it right.....FOX News is HILARIOUS!!!
failing that... American Dad (from one of the very few good episodes):
Bullock: "Say, do you have any Gatorade? I left all of my electrolytes with your daughter"... "Say, Smith, do you know what I was thinking about while I was gazing at the back of your daughter's head?..."
Sorry if I got the exact wording wrong; I'm working from memory here. Anyway, that episode alone makes up for the crappiness of most of that series. Especially since it came right after the PTV episode of Family Guy, which I consider to be the best episode of any TV show, ever. It was a grand night of cartoon-o-vision, which I (and, as far as I know, I alone) consider to be the proper beginning of the new season of both shows.
Hell, even the commercials that night were good. It was a major prime-time premier night...How can they deny it?
(I realize that wasn't strictly relevant...but too bad. It's my two cents, and he thread's not getting any more than that outa me).

"Old man:Well how you doin' little partner?
Young kid: Actually it's little visitor now, atawayoli is how you say it in Cherokee.
Old Man: Well Pardon my French boy, but I'll be damned.
Young kid: Walker told me I have AIDS."
Jon Stewart is not funny. Neither is most American television. It's all regurgitated shit.

Since Family Guy is a mingling of every single kind of basic, unmatured comedy, it has some of the funniest lines on TV.
"Because you touch yourself at night."
"Some say life is like a box of chocolates, but I say life is more like a box of ACTIVE GRENADES!"
"Look Lois, the two symbols of the Republican Party: an elephant, and a big fat white guy who is threatened by change. "
"Okay, you get an apple pie, but you don't get to blow on it!"
Just because you have no sense of humor doesn't mean John Stewart isn't funny.
"Well, I follow the moth in the helicopter to lure it away from the flares, and then Roy comes along in the Lockheed Starfighter and attacks it with air-to-air missiles." Monty Python's Flying Circus
That is just one quote from the show that could be considered the funniest line ever on TV.
"Oh, German. I'm sorry, I thought there was something wrong with you." Fawlty Towers
Jon Stewart is not funny. Neither is most American television. It's all regurgitated shit.
Yea, I don't find his style of humour funny either mainly because it really isn't timeless.

As far as i know the funniest line on TV is from a British 1970s show called Fawlty Towers, about a hotel owner called Basil Fawlty. When he is ill he has a group of germans staying at his hotel, and he upsets them by keep mentioning the war. When one of the lady germans starts crying he asked what the matter is. Her husband replies
German - "You keep mentioning the war!"
Fawlty - "No I don't you do!"
German - "Yes you do! You started it!"
Fawlty - " No, you started it! You invaded Poland!"

Fawlty Towers: By far THE best sitcom ever made. I hadn't seen it in years, so got both series recently and am slowly working my way thru them (don't want to go too quickly - classics like this should be savoured).
So far resisting the temptation to go straight to the 'Germans' episode.

:p That was brilliant, there were others that were just as absurd. Family Guy rules.

My favorite is the one with the dead body. The German one is second.
They play it every weekend (along with about a dozen other brit coms) on PBS here.

Credit where credit is due - most American television is complete crap, but we do have our moments. For example, "Arrested Development" is one of the cleverest and most original shows I've ever seen. (Of course, this is probably why the general public ignored it in favor of more repetitive tripe. I hate the general public sometimes...)

Colbert Report is often hysterical, I find it funnier than Jon Stewart a lot of the time.

I love Fawlty Towers and the line about the Germans is a truly great bit of classic TV comedy. However, without any doubt the best is this bit (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1651045276553857374&q=bob+hope+democrat).

C'mon. Where's the love for Seinfeld?
"Are you still 'Master of your domain'?"
"She's got 'man hands'."
"It wasn't a pick, it was a scratch!"
etc. etc. etc.

Sorry, so far none of this works out of context.
The only quote that has made me smile is the Fawlty Towers sketch - but that's because it's the only one that I recognise.
90% of everything is crap - the Americans produce a lot more TV than most places, so we see a disproportionate amount of crap. But The Simpsons, Cheers, Friends (at the time), The Daily Show, Seinfeld are all works of genius.
