Do you like the scent of tobacco smoke?

Pretty stupid question really, but I decided to see if I really am alone in the world. I actually like the smell (whether from cigarettes, cigars, or pipe tobacco) and find it somewhat refreshing. The odd part is, I don't smoke very much (an estimate of about a pack a year feels high) and never was a heavy smoker.
So, do you like tobacco smoke? Would you get an Ashtray brand air-freshener?
Yea it's nice. Until it goes stale.
Ugh. It makes me sick to my stomach.

i love the smell of tobacco, whether its in a cigarette or hanging in a barn.
im not fond of the smell of cigarette smoke but there are certain pipe tobaccos and cigars that smell wonderful
whiskey, gun oil, cigar smoke, and leaded gasoline all smell wonderful to me.
Pipes are alright if the smoke doesn't fill the room.

Cigarettes are some of the foulest-smelling things on the planet. People who smoke cigarettes should be hit upside the head until they agree to either quit or smoke something else. Cigars are OK. Some cigars are OK. Pipes I don't know about.
I have been around some cigars that were God-awful. I have been around some that were OK. I have even smoked some in my time. Not too bad. But I support smoking bans, since I understand that many people are allergic to smoke.

I smoke a tobacco pipe about twice a week. I have to admit, though, I prefer the flavored blends, like black vanilla cavendish or sometimes cherry.
Not really. It doesn't make me feel ill, although I don't care for the smell and I prefer to avoid it if possible.
Although, I have a severe distaste for the breath and possessions of smokers, they smell horrible.

But I support smoking bans, since I understand that many people are allergic to smoke.
I'll admit right now i've never really looked for the peer reviewed academic journals that cover tobacco smoke allergy, but I cant help feeling that this is on a par with people who aren't comfortable around cliff edges saying they have vertigo. Not liking the smell/taste of something does not equate to being allergic to it.
also what non smokers fail to understand is that there are two types of smoke that come off a cigarette:
1. the stuff that curls off the end while it's sat in the ashtray.
2. the stuff the smoker gets when they inhale through the cigarette.
the difference occurs due to the availabilty of oxygen to the burning material caused by the smoker drawing air through the cigarette.
basically the stuff the actual smokers are getting is quite enjoyable once you acquire the taste, especially with a cool beer at the end of a hot day.
Few people enjoy the stench that comes off a poorly stubbed butt in an ashtray.
If it had nothing to offer, no-one would do it.

Stale tobacco/ashtray smell is prehaps the worst smell on the earth. Pipe tobacco is ok. Cigars...depends, but don't like most of them. Marijuana smells great. As do cloves. There's nothing better than having a nice clove after a bowl.

it really depends, cigarettes can sometimes smell good, depending on brand and quality, but only when they are burning fresh, once it is no longer burning fresh the smell that lingers is one i dont care so much for. i do like the smell of cigars, i dont think i have inhaled the smell of a cigar i did not like, same with pipes

I can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke. I remember what the Wysterian board smelled like after Santa Barbara finished posting there after a few cigarettes. :) I make girlfriends who smoke, go outside to do it, even if it’s winter. Smoking has always been a bit of a turn off for me.
I used to smoke a pipe in the military, but it was really nice smelling tobacco (you wouldn’t believe how many young ladies like the smell of a pipe and tell you it reminds them of their grandfathers). I know that I’m responsible for a lot of young guys smoking pipes in the military now. I don’t take any responsibility for a friend of mine’s snuff habit though, that was his own damned fault. I don’t mind the smell of a nice cigar and I’ve smoked a few of them (cigars in metal cases travel better in your webbing in the field. Pipes get broken too easily).
Smoking has changed a lot in the military. When I started I was one of the few guys who didn’t smoke cigarettes all the time (nothing like being the only guy in the back of a truck not smoking). By the time I was getting out smokers were definitely in the minority and people took less kindly when people sparked up a ciggy in confined spaces. I still took care of my smokers in the military, making sure they identified themselves to me so I could ensure that they had their nicotine time in the field when the level of tactical alertness allowed for it. Some guys would wear the patch in the field and still smoke whenever they got a chance. The chronic smokers got a bit on the tetchy side if you didn’t try remind them of the brief windows they had for smoking. You wouldn’t believe how many of them had burn marks in their sleeping bags, because you couldn’t have your cigarette cherry give away your position.

kind of reminds me of a story a old man once told me
he was in the millitary and he was telling me that when he was in basic they would have to stand in formation, and after standing in formation after awhile they would allow a ciggarette break, but you had to be smoking on this break, if you werent smoking you were still standing at attention. so by the end of basic alot more people were now smokers

I find the smell of pipe tobacco particularly disgusting, followed by cigar smoke. So cloying, both of them. Of the three in my opinion cigarette smell is the least bad. I find the smell of unsmoked sticks far better than that of burnt. Given my tierd ranking of non-fondness, I went with the second option in the poll. Still, I would gladly pick the scent of freshly cut (lawn) grass or baking bread and pastry first.
That gets me thinking... In a while I will have to start a thread on favourite smells... Mmmm... Lawnmowings... Maybe Spring will not be so difficult to face after all (Although I will still miss skating)...

I remember one guy, I used to refer to as the eighth Dwarf “Surly” (he was a big guy but incredibly surly). This guy was a chronic smoker and the longer he was in the field the crankier he got. He was a good soldier with excellant skills, just not good humoured.
So when he was caught with a buddy in an OP in no mans land, between warring parties in former Yugoslavia, he got cut off from his own lines for two weeks. An Officer was allowed to go check on them, because they were on a UN mission and neutral. So when “Surly” sees a pack of cigarettes bulging in the officer’s pocket he says to him:
“Just so you know Sir, the only way you’re leaving this OP alive is without those cigarettes.”
The Officer wisely complied.

The smell of good tobacco is heavenly, I could spend hours in the humidor of the cigar shop I frequent.
Smoke from tobacco is a different story.
Good cigars or pipes smell nice, if you're outside and not suffocated by them. Heavy stale smoke is nasty no matter how good the source.

I've noticed I'm the youngest pipe smoker that I've seen in my area.
My tobacconist keeps trying to sell me on this idea of trying various mixtures that I might like, but I think he's just wants me to buy more, heh.
I tried a whiskey blend once that I didn't like, and a peaches and cream type that was quite good.
Tobacco smoke has a rancid odor. I don't mind people smoking the trash, however, as long as it is done privately.

19 and I've gotten several people onto them and cigars...my local tobaccoist gives me free because I've driven so much business his way (I was 18 between a year and 2 years before my friends, so I would just bring them along and buy for them)

I detest the smell of tobacco smoke. The worst is when someone comes in, who isn't smokingat the moment, but the smell permeates his/her clothes and hair and is coupled with B/O - just nauseating.
The smell of tobacco itself, however, is quite nice.
I do not, never have, and never intend to smoke tobacco. However, whilst cigarette smoke is pretty manky, especially when stale, I must confess I find the smell of pipe or cigar tobacco somewhat more appealing, especially when freshly burnt.
