Wait, this may be irrelevant, but didn't you say your a homosexual? And isn't being 14 too young to make that decision?

Are you sure about that? Because you're going through a stage mainly all males do around puberty. It's called Hero Worship.

Here, read this (http://www.puberty101.com/p_amigay.shtml)

Some out-of-the-box questions, but meh.

It is irrelevant. Most first world nations do not bar gay people from serving in the military.

Well, to answer your question --

Joining the military does have its social benefits, its no harm. But contrary to that, I'd rather not join, your life wasn't given to you to give it away in battle, instead, you could do more with it.

And dude, where did the sexual education go that they teach you since elementary school against having underage sex? :(

At 14, I practiced guarding my chastity from all forms of sexual activity.

But I'm me, and you're you.

Whatever floats your boat.

I just think all of it is wrong.

When in doubt, don't. Besides, other careers are more profitable and we don't need more troops right now.

Actually, proper sex ed does not discourage sex. It just teaches you about it. The decision remains yours. Moralism has nothing to do with sex ed.

Funny that, sex ed in my school basically took the idea that "look, the law says you can't give consent until you're 16, but we know some of you are going to do it anyway. So, since it's better to be safe than sorry, here's how to keep it safe, and what you should be doing..."

Give it a few years old chum. Do some more schooling, grow up a bit more (No offense), do some reading around on the subject. Maybe talk to a relative or someone you trust who's been in the Canadian military or UN forces in their time. Asking random people on the internet shouldn't be the only way to make your decision - don't set your heart on the military, because in a few years you might find another career that you like even more. I wanted to be a lawyer until 17, when I realised that I was awful at public arguing and I couldn't stomach morally defending murderers and drug dealers and the like.

Dispell that myth right now. Peacekeepers do use their weapons, and given the change in policy recently, much more often. A glance at Haiti will tell you that.

Well, if you think the benefits to you outweigh the sacrifice of personal freedom of joining the military, you should consider it.

Also, an important question to ask is..do you trust the military's leadership to deploy you for virtuously? Like, national defense and humanitarian causes? Living in America the thing that's preventing me from considering the military is a complete lack of trust in the motives and the competence of my country's leadership.

I would say don't join the military then. Even peace keepers have to shoot. I would suggest a group like the one Fass mentioned, or maybe the canadian equivalent of peace corps or some such group.

The military can be great, either as a career choice or as a jump-start for a future career.

I used the money I'd saved up to put myself through college and start my career. I have no regrets to having done a couple of tours.

But I really do recommend finishing high school first. The better educated you are, the more likely they will accept your enlistment, and the better jobs you will get while in (and the higher your chances of promotion).

One thing - don't believe you know what you are in for. You will come out a different person than when you came in.

You're kidding, right? When I was 13-14-15, all I could think about was having same sex sex. Given the opportunity, I would have done so. However, I grew up in a small town in the bible belt so it wasn't an option until I got my drivers license. There was plenty of opposite sex sex available, but that didn't interest me at all.

... but i have a very blunt personality that disagrees with authority quite alot...

If you enter the military, they'll take care of that. Or kick you out. But as has already been stated, there is no reason to rush that decision. Get an education, enjoy your childhood, and have some fun first.

I haven’t heard that much and never personally came across any icky sexual abuse in the Canadian Military and have no idea what kind of source you could have for it. If anything there is probably less abuse of that sort in the military than anywhere else because of the strict no-nonsense policy in the Canadian military. You don’t actually join the UN Blue Berets separately by the way, that’s just one of the taskings that you might be asked to do if you’re already in the military. Peacekeepers are armed and have to be very well trained to use their weapons, don’t kid yourself. The troops who end up on peacekeeping missions spend most of their time training about how to handle themselves when things go wrong. If you’re afraid of guns and don’t want to fire them then don’t bother joining the military, you’ll be wasting everyone’s time. If you have huge problems with authority and don’t think that you’ll be able to follow orders you probably aren’t cut out for the military.

If you want to go abroad and help people when they need foreign aid, you should thing about joining an NGO (non governmental organization) like the Red Cross.

Do you actually want to join the military? or is this a default career choice because you arent sure?
Also theres a MASSIVE difference between ALLOWING gays in the military and ACCEPTING gays in the military. Its such an extremely macho culture, theres bound to be situations where you will be mocked or singled out for being different, for being gay or for something else. My housemate grew up in UK army cadets, really wanted to join the millitary, and came out when i met him in first year of university. After 2.5 years of being openly homosexual and keen to enlist he has decided that the military as it stands today is not for him. I don't know if this is related to his sexuality or not, only he can answer that.

secondary to this is my own aversion to joining the millitary. everyone who enlists in the british army (i assume the armies of other western nations are broadly similar) is taught to shoot and kill. depending on your deployment you may be REQUIRED to shoot and kill. your initial job description on enlistment has little to do with this. e.g. the bus bombings in London saw the ceremonial household cavalry out on the streets of London in full battle dress with loaded SA80's...
could you end another human being's life, take away from them and everyone who knows them, everything they are and could have become?

If everyone refused to fight, or persecute their fellow man, there would be no war. for there would be no opressors.

Your 14. No offence, but you have a lot of growing up to do, before you decide any future career path, or even your own sexuality. Teenagers always insist that they are not children and they know their own minds, but believe me, over time your mind will change on lots of matters, not just those that are presented before you now. Take my word for it, I'm 36 and still not grown up:p

Why doesn everyone think i'm joining the military right now, i mean at a older age after high school. And it wouldn't matter if i was bugged for being gay in the military, i'm more of a politician than a soldier anyway so i'd know how to fight.

And second, i know its sorta early to decide my sexuality, but if I change later on in life , so be it...i'm gay at this moment.:p
