How do you like your liquor, and what sort do you like?

So, I think the title of this thread is pretty self explanatory, so I'll explain my personal views on the subject. Do you Bond up and have your vodka martini shaken, not stirred? Are you like a middle aged woman and insists that limoncello be disturbingly thick, and only have one drink per night, if that? Are you like my friend who stalks the party scene around campus until he finds a bottle of everclear, at which point he drains it? Are you like my Kahlua Mudslide loving neighbors who like their liquor to taste like a milkshake? Are you Yokel Jeb, who swears by the ever classic white lightning? Or are you a middle aged man who shuns nearly every kind of liqour, save cosmopolitans, for the more traditional and filling tastes of specialty or homebrewed beer?

I am a fan of my straight liquor. I'm one of the few people I know who will actually drink liquor straight, and not for the purpose of getting drunk either. I stun my friends when I sip on whiskey, and then swirl it around in my mouth to get acquianted with the smokey flavor. I shock strangers when I throw back straight vodka. Scotch in a small glass with ice is delightful in my book. And, when the situation calls for it I will go with a martini, gin or vodka will both work for me. Shake, stir whatever, makes no difference. When I was in Germany I took an while in the black forest to just sit on a patio by a creek, and sip on a delightful local cherry Schnapps.

*Disclaimer: I have attempted to avoid drinking to the point of being drunk, and I will never say that it's something that anyone should do. Responsibility in drinking not only ensures you don't do quite so many stupid things, but it also ensures better tastes in the drinks you drink, and decreases the odds of a headache in the morning.

No, that's what I like to call the "smart people" category. Take note, I am not a member of said category.

I like my liquor in large quantities, that's how.

Seriously, I like Bombay Sapphire gin in a dry martini, and I like tequila shots.

Bitter, Vodka and Ouzo are my favorite. With the second two being straight.

I like getting drunk sometimes, but not always.

Single malt scotch whisky, either straight or with a few drops of spring water, no ice, no anything else.

Dry G&T with ice and lemon.

And, being German, it's pretty damned strong, even though it tastes delicious. :-)

How I like my liquor? Cool and in abundance! http://www.studip.uni-goettingen.de/pictures/smile/drink3.gif

Oh, I forgot to state which kind. Well, whisk(e)y is fine, so is gin, but I'm more or less a beer drinker. I don't react to hard liquor all too good - beer is way better for me :)

It really depends on the situation. I like beer to wind down on a summer afternoon, mixed drinks before dinner, wine with my dinner, and straight liqueur for after.

I like beer with good flavour, and usually the darker it is the better. Guinness is a favourite of mine. I like martinis (gin or vodka, either is fine), cosmopolitans, margaritas, daiquiris, manhattans, whatever takes my fancy at the time. I have been known to occasionally sip single malt scotch, though I have yet to find a vodka I like enough to sip straight up. I adore Amaretto di Saronno on the rocks after dinner, and I will never turn down a good port. At parties, I usually do shots, no chaser. Used to be vodka, these days it's tequila (but not Cuervo - Jose is not my friend!).

Like I said, it really depends. :D

I usually only drink stuff that's good enough to enjoy straight or with some water or ice.

I'll mix rum and coke together, or whiskey and coke.

Gin is best mixed with vermouth in a martini.

Tequila, añejo if possible, straight. Too bad getting the good stuff over here is kind of hard.

A local fine foods supermarket here just recently started stocking Gran Centenario Anejo tequila, which I think is tasty as hell.

All stuffed into a blender and liquified!

I also forgot to mention a drink I've never had, but the entire concept amuses me:

The Irish Car Bomb:

1/2 pint Guinness
1 oz Jamison
1/2 oz Bailey's Irish cream

Those are popular at a Trenton bar called "The Sportsmen's Pub". Great place to sit around and watch Football or Hockey. They make good wings and a fantastic mustard pie too.

That's why so many people get turned off by tequila. They get used to bing drinking the bad stuff and getting massive headaches. You need to sip a good tequila, like Jimador or Don Julio, to know what tequila is about.

haha...close. I call it a "knock you on your ass" drink. Atleast when I make it.

it is this:
take pint glass, fill with ice
add 1/2 oz of the following:
vodka, gin, rum, tequilla
fill with sour mix
shake
float Blue Curacao and Razzmatazz/chamboard

the curacao and razz will drip down and look like tie-dye. Tastes like smarties too.

close...only real difference is the razz/cham vs. coke, which leads to a surprisingly different taste (smarties vs...well, iced tea...)

you'd proably like planters punch
pint glass, filled with ice
1 oz light rum
1/2 oz grenadine
equal parts sour and OJ
shake
top with 1 oz Meyers Dark Rum
(Light Rum Gets Some Old Men Drunk)

Ugh. I have friends who, for reasons I can't fathom, are quite fond of Irish car bombs. I've had them, and find them rather vile. Oh, and you forgot to mention that the Guinness goes in a pint glass, the Bailey's and whisky in a shot glass. Drop the shot glass into the Guinness, and chug the entire foul concoction before it congeals. Yuck.

No no, it's not that I wouldn't drink alcohol. I've got nothing against it really, it's just that I dislike intensely how it tastes. Anything with an alcohol content above about 2% assaults my tastebuds.

Vodka, iced for preference. Or Scotch on ice, or Scotch and soda...although I'll drink it straight up. Rum, too. Hell, I'll drink most liquor, but I don't like soft alcohol. The taste just sorta bugs me...
