The government in Australia may ban Porn websites. I hope they don't cave in to those pushing for this oppressive legislation.

That is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever heard.

Firstly, it's the opposition party and a minor party pushing for this, not the Government. And since the government has a double majority, neither of them have any power.

Ok, that's confusing. I can't wait until Bush makes sure that every nation has a nice, simple two party system of government like the US.

Family First senator Steve Fielding yesterday revealed he had been in negotiations for months with Prime Minister John Howard over measures to block internet porn.

>> Oh yes, that Christian party is at it again! This is same party which once made a statement about burning Lesbians as witches on stake :p

Because, you know, having to choose the lesser of the two evils is really great.

Hey, you've got a choice. You can vote for the greater of two evils you know.

I can't see how it'd be workable at all. If they're going to just block sites, good luck to them. Have they any idea how many porn sites there are out there?
I don't and believe me, I've done my best to find out.

The only other option is to block phrases or words. And that's just bloody stupid and annoying. My schools have internet blockers that block phrases, and as a result at times I can't access my hotmail accounts of there's spam there with naughty words in the subject line. I also have been blocked from newspapers (eg. I couldn't read about the Gary Glitter saga cause it mentioned 'child porn'). And of course any site that has the word 'game' in it, including educational sites that would be invaluable to use.

They'd presumably do it on a case by case basis, as the sites were discovered. Some ISPs here have been successfully blocking child porn in this way for some time now.

Those sort of PC porn blocking software definitely will have issues.
Try looking for something like "History of Middlesex" and see how dumb the software can be.
