She's 12 now. The abuse started when she was 4 and was married to a 30-year-old.

*edit: The pics links didn't work. Just read the story. It's happy and sad.

It's so sad and almost beyond my minds comprehension. No child should have to suffer that. It's really heartbreaking.:(

It's these types of things where you really wonder what evils people are capable of.

And yet in the midst of this insane family is this young boy who just refuses to take part.

Mankind sure is screwed up.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. It's a good thing the fruit doesn't always fall close to the tree.

I think this is an incredible story of this young girl's will to live. This statement pretty much says it all:

"She says she believes there are other girls like her in Kandahar, maybe elsewhere in Afghanistan, and that she wants to study human rights and one day go back to help them."

Yeah, its wierd that the same statements seem to kind of resonate with the everyone. Probably why the writer included them, I guess.

There are bad people in this world, we live in a world of horrible deprivations and evil, places where torture, terror and fear rule many lives and the most innocent amongst us suffer, and amidst all this we tend to forget one of the most important things about life.

What's important is that there are good people in this world, and we should never, ever forget that.

Ah...what xenophobia? As yet, no-one's implied anything about race or culture being a reason for this obscenity.
Except you.

Mayhaps you're the xenophobic one here, mmm?

Even still, how often are such incidents documented? And how often do the victims actually speak out about what happened so young?

Further, how is it xenophobic when no race/culture/ethnicity is even mentioned?

I was really inspired by the way her brother (in law?) helped her. If only we could abolish this notion that such things should not be confronted. And if only we could make it more possible to confront them, then this might have been stopped earlier. Evil can only win if good people do nothing.

My Question is, where was the mother in all of this,i sure as hell hope her mother had no part of this abuse,it was her brother-in -law who helped ,not her mother. That woman- child seems to have an inner strength that seems almost unfathomable , her capacity to forgive and move on is really inspiring,I wish i could help her,in some small way financially,is that possible?

Her story makes me think of the movie "Dogville" by Von Trier, but without the chance of getting even. Sadly this not a movie either.

Ok, HER story came out, she has some perspective again, but how many are kept the same situation we can only guess.

Its incredible that in the face of such hopelessness and despair, she had such strength and fortitude.
I know some people that whine like bitches if they sleep too late and dont have time for a shower.
Often the same types that would find this story tiresome and casually make useless remarks to show their indifference.

I can see someone here in the US adopting this girl, getting attention to her injuries from top doctors, giving her a good education and then see her crusade for children/women everywhere.

She must be exceptionally strong and determined-I dont see her fading away, even if life becomes comfortable for her from now on.

Wow, someone else has seen 'Dogville'. You seen 'Mandalay' yet? I have it on my X-Box, but have yet to summond up the courage to watch it. I just know it's going to be depressing as hell.

Her mother gave her away as a bride for a 30-year-old when she was four.

Everyone who is inspired by the story should send her an email. :)
