I'd love to see this happen. But it would have to be in a highly secured military facility, since Muslim extremists would love to blow the place to kingdom come.

As if this body would actually have any legitimacy. It is all about being able acheive change. Would they be able to get the terrorists to lay down their arms because people shouldn't kill in the name of religion? Somehow I doubt they would listen. The U.N. of religions isn't going to be able to accomplish much.

The Muslim extremists would not attend, and consider moderate Muslims to be heretics.

Yeah I am sure there will be extremists from all the religions that would not attend as well.

With some of the stuff in the past and present in Ireland and in the US it would not be out of the picture to have a few christian denomination to try and do the same

Funny...all this time I've thought religion was a part of the problem, not the solution.

Meh...may as well go for it though, what else have we to lose?

Believe it or not, when Pat Roberson is not on the scene, religious leaders can be very civil. The can even be more civil than most politicians.

Actually, it would be neat to see the Pope, the Dali Lama, the sanhedron and some Ayatollah all sitting talking in one room.

Do Confuscianist's get to attend, and if they do, do humanists?

It didn't specify major religions, just religions.
So.. do I have to attend to represent my religion?
Or will someone volunteer to be my representative?
Or do I have to hire someone?

'Cuz I'm poor and lazy, I'll just cry descrimination.

There hasnt been an authentic Sanhedrin for ~1900 years. A modern one assembled in Israel, but without the blessing of the government or very many rabbis. I suppose the "leader" (and I use the word leader loosely) of the current Jews would be the Chief Rabbinate in Israel.

I'd have included Buddishm instead of the Dalai Lama, but I know nothing of Buddihsm. :(

The Dalai Lama is the leader of a form of Budhism. Tibetian is not a religion. Otherwise, LOL.

Is this the beginning of another Futurama prophecy?

What'd be even cooler would be if they included a summit on this:

Here's the one thing with the following three religions I don't get to this day:

Jews believe in the one God Abraham believed in, right?

Christians believe in the one God Abraham believed in, right?

Muslims believe in the one God Abraham believed in, right?

So, if I'm not completely mistaken, all of those three religions have faith in the same God, right? What's the problem in getting along?!? I honestly don't get it!!!

There are differences. Christians believe in the Trinity. Jews only believe in God. muslims believe Jesus was a prophet who was superceded by a later prophet, mohammed.

Yes, while I know about these differences - it's still the same God: the One that Abraham believed in.

Seems supremely illogical, even for the superstitious. The mushy concept of "every religion approaches the same God from different angles" is so sloppy and unworkable that I'm surprised there are still people dense enough to cling to it, and yet without it there is even less possibility for the different supestitious groups to coexist.

After all, how do you have a peaceful and meaningful dialogue with a group who believe you're going to burn in Hell forever and ever? How do you find common cause with people who sincerely believe that the All Powerful Creator Of The Universe hates you? Or with people who tell you that He does love you, after all, but He's going to torture you anyway if you don't do things the way they want you to? Or with people who tell you that God doesn't agree with your view of your human rights? How the hell are you supposed to make meaningful progress with a bunch of adult humans who still believe in fairies, spirits, and magic powers?

By the way for those who only read the title it's not about uniting into one religion it's about creating a "UN of religions"

They should make it! It's needed in my opinion.

Promising yes.
Realistic? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA no.
I don't see it as any less realistic then the actual UN.

No, they wouldn't. Such a forum would probably include pretty much only the moderate to conservative elements in each religion, not the extremists. The moderates all get along with each other anyway. Muslim extremists have no problem blowing up moderates (or false Muslims/infidels in their eyes) and love to kill Jews, so such a forum would be a ripe target.

I wouldn't resolve anything. Muslims will still be intent on taking the west over, through either covert or overt means and they would only be interested in using this organisation to do that. And after I've seen what damage muslims of all persuasions have done to my country, I don't want to coexist with them.
