The fine line...

I notice there is a fine line between exotic and being an outright freak...

For instance, I used to work with a girl that wore fishnets over bright pink tights, a bullet belt, and had bright bright pink hair, and was looked at by many as a freak, but was the sweetest girl you would ever want to meet, was tremendously smart, and I had the hugest crush on when we worked together.. I saw her more as exotic, and always thought she probably had a very normal private life, with spurts of wild partying.... (purely my opinion)...

Where do you draw this ever-evaporating line??

A freak is one with no abnormality.

A freak is one with no abnormality.

I guess it would all depend of one's good or bad definition of a "freak"... I am defining a freak as someone who has gone OVER the line.... For instance, a Gothic, Marilyn Manson fan could be exotic, but one that crosses the line, starts adopting satanism, and starts sacrificing animals seems to be genuinly going out of my league....

Everyone in the world is a freak, except for me, of course. I am the only normal person on the face of the planet.

Considering the fassion disasters that most Japanese teens turn into after school, I've long since lost the freak line.

Actually the girl you had a crush on would be considered rather subdued in dress by Shibuya standards.

How to tell when someone is a freak:

H N Fiddlebottoms VIII is their idol.

'Nuff said.

Then, freak being synonymous to exotic? Exotic being excessively different, unique? I'll take freak as meaning excessively different to the point of breaking social norms. Which means that it depends entirely on the society that the individual is in, whether he is considered a freak or not.

Fascists prefer circles. You're either in or you're out.

I've gone from working in music, to theatre to film. For me at this point a freak is someone who wears a suit...

Agreed. Especially if they show a good bit of leg. Not too much, just enough to let your mind wander.
