A term from the late 16th Century, a vulgarization from the root of the Latin word for 'black.' In 'polite' company of the time the term of preference was 'Negro' and the use of the more vulgarized version was an indicator of someone of lower social class. It has been used as a spitted epitath by the lower class in general for centuries, and continues to be an attention grabber for people with no class to this day.

For instance, someone could use it as a way to stir people up, taking something obviously offensive and vulgar and saying it without context and then marveling that something that was known to be offensive actually offended people. Of course, a similar sensation can come from splashing water-It's obvious that water splashes when you throw something in it-thus the throwing of a rock into water could illicit the same joy. For some, it doesn't take much. Of course, one would ask what the value of either action is. Maybe it's just a lack of class...

Public floggings are an embarressment to not only the victum, but the poor, lost souls who take part in them. It is a degrading act that, frankly, I shudder at everytime I get wind of it. Some people, however, aren't as rational and civil as I and view this innapropriate, hanis act as a solution. I am absolutely shocked some minds could be so immature.

As sick as it sounds, they are increasing in popularity. The reason being people are entertained and justice is served (and effective... Repeated Acts of Crime have dwindled to 1/7th of what they used to be).
