NS General Election Exit Poll

This is a privately run effort to observe why people are voting the way they are. Post on this thread if you have voted without any previous party allegiance, and give the reasons why you voted the way you did. Other neutrals who still don't know who to vote for or whether or not to vote can post here for advice, and to ask the parties questions.

hypocrit!

Not at all. I just haven't recruited enough Revolutionaries yet to storm the NS General Parliament by force and remove the oppressive government at gunpoint.

Or smiley gunpoint.

Let's see.... I think I voted Technocrat Party because they are so compelling.:D

They are a party that believes in progress and I believe in progress. Good match, right?

I voted UDCP, but I did so in all of the elections, so I can't exactly claim to be a neutral. However, I shall answer anyone's questions about the UDCP to the best of my knowledge.

I took it seriously.... eventually. I almost jokingly posted that I voted for another party... actually I did post that but retracted it. I don't know, maybe people think that their reasons are self-evident. I really don't know. However, I think that it would be a good thing if people did post. Oops, oh yeah, I have an allegiance!:D Meh, oh well, let everyone post!

I voted DSP because...well, I sorta wrote most of our manifesto. ;)

That tends to be a good reason to vote for a party. I think that may be Vegas Rex's reason for voting Technocratic.

I voted for the UDCP because of the MLP's embrace of revolutionary Leninism, the DSP's extreme moderation, the Conservative Party's cultural reaction, the Technocratic Party's opposition to human freedom, the Classical Liberals' market fundamentalism, the AACP's potential rejection of working class power, and the silly parties' silliness.

The only place where you aren't sickeningly centrist is in your name; I bet it's costing you votes.

You're opposed to fully public education, opposed to nationalized health care, and opposed to long-term unemployment benefits, but in favor of public control over utilities, something of a welfare state, and social liberalism.

I almost voted for the anarchists because of my distaste for government, but ended up voting for the classic liberals because of the fear of what type of anachy would result.

Not really. I am referring to a party that not only is moderate, but wants to be moderate, and carefully phrases its manifesto so that it sounds moderate enough.

We're somewhere between mod left and left-of-centre.

You're opposed to fully public education
free post-secondary education requires higher tax. With your idea of monetary abolishment, you're making free college and universities pointless.
opposed to nationalized health care
In fact, we do support subsidized healthcare.
and opposed to long-term unemployment benefits
I don't think it'll take a person a year to find a job.

This is our view of UI benefit:

"Welfare benefits are provided for the unemployed, but decreased with time, and combined with reskilling opportunities. Long-term disabled members of society are eligible for more extensive welfare provisions."

but in favor of public control over utilities, something of a welfare state, and social liberalism.correct.

So why I voted DSP:

- I'm the member of the party
- UDCP is too radical
- MLP and MOBRA are using violent tactics in their campaign.
- ESP is too silly :D
- People had enough with NSCP and NSCL
- AACP and Technocrats' policy are wrong
- NBIP is strictly only for British people.

free post-secondary education requires higher tax. With your idea of monetary abolishment, you're making free college and universities pointless.

Why? As I said in the other thread, it's not like people who don't go to university just do nothing. It's a question of preference; if you prefer a job that requires a university education (as a great number of people do) you pursue that course, and if you prefer a job that does not require a university education, you pursue a different course. You're making it sound as if no one would pursue a higher education if they weren't benefitted monetarily for it, and frankly that's nonsense.

In fact, we do support subsidized healthcare.

That's why I said "nationalized."

I don't think it'll take a person a year to find a job.

It can, and furthermore, making people find jobs quickly lowers wages and degrades working conditions by forcing competition between workers.
