when a thread dies

People without names

What happens to a thread after it dies?

does it die and just rot returning resources back to where it came from?

or

does it die and go to a thread heaven where every need of the thread is completed, but only if it was a good thread, the bad threads go to thread hell where they are spamed, trolled etc... for eternity?

or

does the thread get reincarnated to a new life and appears as a new thread with the possible memory of the previous life?

or

are the threads waiting for their thread messiah to come and save them from eternal deletion?

what ever happens to threads after they die out, this one will know soon enough.

Given how many times threads on abortion/God/homosexuality/gun control/Atomic bombings/evolution/etc. have appeared, at least on NS General, threads are reincarnated often, sometimes before they have really even died. :p

Aaand you get the point... That's all a thread is. For all the meaningless conjecture, insults, verbosity and thought that go into such things, it's all just a bunch of 0's and 1's.

Dead threads are reincarnated as new ones, thus explaining why it's necessary to have 2 discussions about abortion, 5 on how evil Bush is, and 7 on religion, and 15 on the latest news story going at around the same time.

The realm of January 1st, 1970 is just the cemetary. Deleted threads are cremated.

Well, I recently got reported for a grave dig of a November 2005 thread (I didn't know that was a no-no). So maybe better start a new one. Although if it's in the RP forum, the rules may be different.

They are obviously reincarnated... Every single thread is repeated over and over again in the course of a week, and when the topic finally dwindles, it is brought up once again in a completely irrelevant thread.

What happens to a thread after it dies?

It gets sent into the netherworld of the forum. Neither alive but without the death blow that the mods can give not dead either.

This is something I should have thought up after "What makes a thread last" it isn't far to what happens after the thread fades. I'm a tad annoyed now. ;)

I like to think that when a thread dies, provided it is good and pure of heart, that it moves on to a better place, a place untouched by the dogmatic regurgitations of fools and the malevolent tentacles of satan's foot soldiers, embedded in a heavenly state of higher existence.

Unless, of course, a forum Necromancer revives a thread and turns it into a zombie undead thread that must be destroyed by a delete to the head. For a good example, see the Chuck Norris thread.
