I was orignially a radical socialist song penned to support some stiking dockers in London. It was originally put to the tune of the White Cockade, an traditional Irish rebel song, the LAbour party co opted it later changing the tune to the boring Tennebaum (which is also the tune to Christmas tree, O Christmas tree)

It works better with the White Cockade imo.
