Depending on some events last week I think, that people always want to have things that they could not get. Do you have any experiences with that or are you belonging to the lucky people that have all that they want ?

You know, i never thought that "you always what what you don't get" is true.
I haven't had bowel cancer yet, for instance. Not really rushing out to buy a ticket on that plane.

I have everything I need and most of what I want, and that's generally enough to keep me content.
Although I do tend to have cravings for take-out chinese just about the same time my restraunt budget has been used up.....

Yeah, but you SAY that, but you never know when something comes along that you never realised you want. Like yesterday in the pub, when my cousin and i invented Eye-Stalk goggles, electronic gadgets that enable you to see out of antenna on your head, like a slug.
C'mon, YOU KNOW THE INSTANT ITS MENTIONED YOU WANT THEM.

yeah there are actually things I want, but I have to save up money for them, or you know buy a house to put them in (ain't no way I am putting in the work to do it in the house I'm rentin')

Yeah, thats my problem at present, sharing a house with someone who might think it's too much effort and history to stay here, renting. I'd prefer to buy it together, that way if it went tits up as friends like it did as a relationship then we could sell and split the money or the like. Which is why i haven't bothered to do any real work aside from cleaning. It's a lovely house though, on top of a hill, overlooking the town, garden about four times the size of any house i've ever lived in.
Rent is money wasted, isn't it? But then again, if the alternative is a cardboard box or home with Mam...

we are currently painting my house, my hubby thinks it's a waste of time and money, but he is helping me anyway. ;) Most of the stuff I really want to do though requires, like knocking out walls and putting things into the ceiling which is a lot of work for a house you don't own.

yeah, I am not feeling too bad about renting this house, I got a great deal, it's about 1/3 the price of most others it's size in the area, and if I move I would have to pay about $200US more to live in a studio apt. which isn't a great deal when I am in a 3 bed 2 bath, right now.

Yeah, i could get into that whole thing, but given it's rented, i think i'll subsume all that kind of impulse when the winter finally breaks into the garden, and the greenhouse. Quite fancy growing some tomatoes. Dunno why, rarely eat salad. Just be nice to do something like that heh

Mmm, thing was, i always paid rent at home, so it's not quite so bad as it would be for some of my friends/work colleagues (have a guy in work who is 33, lives with his parents, earns £23,000 a year in an area where the average salary is about £16,000, doesn't pay a penny in rent, and whats more, his mother makes him packed lunch...and if she forgets, gives him a couple of quid to buy himself something. At 33 dammit! I'm torn between being appalled, feeling sorry for him and being envious). So, given i used to pay Satellite bills in the parental home, Internet, share of the phone bill, and £170 a month, came to about £290 a month usually, it's not a great leap to move closer to work (cutting £60 off transport) and share rent and bills so it comes to about £370 each.

I'm not particularly materialistic, but there is someone I want but can't have. :(

That's not true! I don't get kidnapped and molested by NFL football players and I...
...hmm...bad example. :p

Just because there are things you want and can't have, it doesn't mean there aren't things you want and can have. For example, I want shelter, food, beer, coffee and so on, and I have those.

Cabra, do you have a seven headed monster of mythology gorging on your liver and spleen as we speak?
Nope?
Do you really want it?

You mean you could make it leave my heart alone and go for my liver instead?
Yes, I'd really want that.

Mmmm. This is usually the point of the conversation where a man should go "emotionally vulnerable and semi nihilist seeing woman, let's make a crack about 'do you currently have seven inches of heaven inside you' yadda yadda" but instead i'll just hate myself for thinking of the remark.
Oh, it's harsh being a self knowing male sometimes *sigh*

Well, considering that the reply would have been something about how heaven ran out of batteries, there's no need for hating yourself because of that
