Birthday Dinners

My birthday is next Friday, so I'm trying to decide what I want for dinner that day. I've got a couple things in mind, but what I could really use are some suggestions. Good stuff is what I want here: I'm not lookin' for "ZOMG DO BEEFCAKE 4000" or what have you. Quality home made stuff. At the moment I'm leaning towards my dad's potatoe soup and some Texas-toast fried sandwiches, but neither one is all that healthy. I want healthy and fantastically tasting. So, yah. Suggestions?

Olive Garden! Thats where I go for all my birthdays.
Ugh. No.

1. Few restaurants in area--I'm up in the rural mountains of Colorado.

2. That place is shit.

3. I'm staying at home. No spending lots of money and stuff. I AM having my girlfriend over, however.

I don't mean any offense by my comments towards Olive Garden, by the way, so my apologies if I did. I just would prefer something homemade. After living off of restaurant food for quite a while back in September when we were moving, I've been kinda turned off restaurant food for the most part. Very rarely will I want to eat at one nowadays.

I like spaghetti and meatballs. Or chicken in white wine sauce. Mmm...

How about just white wine?

Nice sounding, though not exactly to my personal taste. Thanks, though, for being the only one with an actual suggestions.

TSI: Negative. I faint at the slightest drop of alcohol in my system. I'd damn my Cherokee blood for it, except that I hate the taste of alcohol anyway and it's bad for me, so it's all good.

Actually, studies have shown that alcohol in moderation helps prevent heart disease in older people. Now, that's just alcohol in general. If you drink red wine, you can reduce your risk of heart disease even more.

Oooh...apart from the wine and the steak--which can be changed to another meat, like chicken or salmon or something--that sounds pretty damned good. I'll take it under consideration. Thank you good sir.

Oh I know that. But as I said: the slightest amount, and I faint. And I wake up with what I suspect is the equivalent of an incredible binge drinking hangover. So I can't use alcohol for medicinal purposes anymore than for whatever people usually use it for. =/

For my birthday, my roommate made me a pan of escargots (unlike the restaurant they’re cheap and easy to make on mass), a marinated steak, and a baked potatoe with all the fixings (I’m pretty certain a salad was involved but I probably blanked it out.

Strange to see another reference to Olive Garden restaurants today. During this weeks Wysterian chat, someone from Chicago swore by Olive Garden, while others swore at Olive Garden.
