That's right! Mexico defeats the USA at their own game! Take that for all the times you've beaten us at football in the World Cup.

And the USA may be out of the tournament.

Bah, as an American, I do not care about the American team, too many Yankees...

Now, the Dominican Republic is the team I'm rooting for.

I don't get it. Why must people make a thread every time the US loses at some sporting event?

america has been suprisingly sucky at our traditional sports in international competition this year... must be they can now test for all of our designer steriods.

The US did do pretty well in the winter olympics.

There are only two Yankees on the team (Jeter and Rodriguez). All right, three if you count Damon, but I don't since he hasn't actually played as a Yankee. :)

Well, the Brits I don't know, most of the people in the US haven't even heard about some of those sports. But in baseball the US is supposed to be the world power, so beating them is a matter of national pride.

Mexico also has been beaten badly in soccer against the US, which is our national sport, so there's that too.

Cuba and Dominicana would have also been news worthy because they just have great baseball players.

The U.S. is the most infamous country in the world. Considering its petty origins, it's incredibly amazing it is as powerful as it is today. Thusly, it is a matter of major national pride when a team beats a U.S. team.

DAMN YOU MEXICO! (That was just on principal: I don't give a crap about sports.)

sounds like someone's jealous. if by petty you mean we were the first nation to prove democracy is a viable form of government and the first to fire a shot for self determination in the colonial era, then yes our origans are petty.

Excuse me for not clarifying. By petty, I meant puny/tiny/small/what have you. As in the term petty theft. It refers to the theft of small, not so valuable stuff.

We can kick Japan's ass in a non serious exhibition game, but we can't beat freaking Mexico when it matters. MEXICO FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. Maybe there's a stricter steroid policy?:p

That was a kick-ass game, by the way. God I love baseball.

Anyway, don't celebrate too much ... we also lost to Canada. ;)

Damnit ... you people need to quash that political crap right now.

There's no politics in baseball.

Go argue nationalistic assholery elsewhere. I wanna talk about the game!

You're right, that WILL never happen, that would be like anyone beating Australia at Aussie Rules, or Canada at Canadian Rules... we all know about them:p

I've not seen one before - the 'Britain beats USA at sporting event' one I started yesterday was just a joke thread about the fact that the only time we Britons can beat the USA, Russia, China et al is when we don't let them play in the competition.

I would expect, though, that the reason people like to beat the USA at sporting events is because the somewhat over the top patriatism often on display at these events is mildly irritating to everyone who isn't American (USA! USA!). And, whenever you have any smug git, it's nice to shut them up every once in a while.

We've already been over why these rankings are flawed. All they take into account is number of wins. They don't take into account who the wins were over. Yes America can beat the Soloman Islands a couple of hundrud times. But could they beat England? Brazil? Holland? Argintenia? Senegal?

I noticed South and Central America (that's South of USA type America) are doing really well. Australia have decent baseball team but the men's team aren't so good.

The US tends to win big sport meets other than football and other British games which all got taken over by South America or the Aussies/Southern Welsh(New Zealanders).

So we take our petty wins

It was a very good game. Excellent pitching on both sides and it could have gone either way.

My favorite team in the Classic would have to be Japan. Those guys are small, but they're very good. A few of them are extremely fast, at that.

Yeah, but you didn't beat our best. Our best are all in spring training right now. Beat whatever teams wins the title this year and that'll be something.

That wouldn't be fair. It would be all Dominicans and Puertoricans.

I don't know, looks like Korea is going to upset. They've beaten Japan twice so that seems a lock and they have this annoying tendancy to not make any mistakes.
