Hmmm...

What they're probably burning on legal fees...

Who would have to pay if he won? Him or the city? I guess that's the real question here.

There is no way they'd let him successfully sue the city...I hope...otherwise I can imagine a rash of city employees damaging their own property...

I'm suddenly reminded of the old Kids in the Hall sketch where a man sues himself for sexual harrassment. Funny.

This is Lodi, California so there is no limit to the depths of stupidity. Remember, this is the place that non english speaking illegal aliens actually raise their educational system from 50 to 48 in the nation. All while constantly attempting to tell the world how smart and enlighentened they are.

That lawsuit is friggin' ridiculous. That guy should counter-sue himself for bringing a frivolous lawsuit.

It's terribly shortsighted. If the city agrees to settle, it essentially means that the city employee caused the damage and was responsible. It's probably a cause for termination.

This is highly awesome. God I wish I was an attorney at this trial. It would be impossible to argue that case with a straight face.

Although this guy is clearly a nut, I can see that a situation could arise when you are working for the city and damage your own property and need to sue. what if you were fixing a gas main, for example, and there was an explosion? true its probably your fault but you were only doing it because they told you to. They didnt tell him to drive into his own car though. what a retard.

Right. He should probably technically win the suit, since a city employee did technically damage his vehicle while working for the city, and then he should lose his job, because I'm sure his job isn't to be backing his dump truck into parked cars.

This reminds me of several stupid lawsuits, like the woman who sued the store when she slipped on her son's puke or the woman who sued a store becase she accidently tripped over her own kid. Then, there was the five year old who sued his father because the father's lawnmower accidently touched him. Damn. There are people who sue when they shouldn't and people who don't when they should, like my mother.

When my mother was pregnant with my younger sister, she was exposed to paint fumes at her work. That resulted in my younger sister's mental retardation and possibly her odd behavior that hasonly became apparent recently. She would have sued, but she didn't want to lose her job.

Why in America, the land of liberty and personal responsibility, are people the least willing to actually accept any personal responsibility?

I know that "lefty liberals" usually get blamed for this, but that argument doesn't hold up. Europe is much more to the left than America and we don't have crap as stupid as this.

I dunno...

I heard a story on the news recently about someone in England (I think) suing under the proposition that they had received excessive parking tickets and that the parking tickets were an abuse of human rights...

But, no, I don't think it's lefties or righties or moderates who sue on things like this - it's just stupid/greedy/dishonest people.

I wasn't going to blame it on someone's politics. I don't think it's fair to blame a whole group of people because a few of the people in said group act like idiots.

True it has nothing to do with left or right, it has to do with the California mentality which has been cultivated over may years. California has for well over 100 years been something of a refuge for the bizzare, the infirm, the criminal, the drug culture, and every sort of social outcast that can be imagined. In california there simple isn't anything that can be considered too extreme to be part of the "mainstream". Combine this with an educational system that is as well as non-existant, and the fact that it happens to hold one of the 2 major media centers of the US, it is certain to garner even more attention than would any other area.

Good answer. California seems to be even more strange than most other places in America. (Though you come from Kansas - who are you to lecture?)

I hope that he wins/loses the case. :D

Perhaps if his wife wins the case, the city will fire him for negligence? Naw....then he would sue them for wrongful dismissal.

Personally, I think he should be fined for being stupid in a public place.
