Giving up

When have you ever given up?
Given up something that wasn't doing you good any more?
Given up on something that seemed to difficult or unobtainable?
Given up because you couldn't be bothered any more?

Not me. I'm a tenacious and persist....

Gave up drugs.

But as I'm sure you can tell, the damage had already been done. :p

Hon, are you struggling with something? These last few threads of yours seem to say "struggling." ( HUG )

Cobra. Yeah. :p

Well I don't really read the names on here, I just glance at them. So, that's how I got Cobra instead of Cabra.

I gave up a friendship that was hurting me more than helping me.
I gave up playing an instrument which brought me no joy.
I gave up lying after it screwed me over.
I've given up relationships (of sorts) that weren't working.
I gave up a website that wasn't good for me.
I gave up caring so much about certain people's opinions of me.
I gave up a group of friends that brought down my self-esteem.
I gave up some of my effort with school - a mixture of good (less beating myself up as a perfectionist), and a mixture of bad (letting work slip more).
Uh... I gave up all sweet things (apart from fruit and fruity yoghurt) for Lent once... (despite being totally non-religious) :P
edit : I gave up "loving" someone who I knew would never feel the same way.

And, for the record, I'm happy with all my decisions about giving stuff up. They all turned out for the best.

Ah, who hasn't given up the odd degree? Especially when it's conflicted with the aforementioned pot smoking.
Still, if I can avoid going overboard, I might just get one this time round. Two and a half months to go!

Well, I once gave up trying to make manga because of Japanese cultural prejudices keeping me from doing so, though it's not as though it matters as I couldn't draw that well, anyway, and manga is mostly kitsch to boot, so I was better off going on to something else.

I have given up drugs
I have given up on relationships that were harmful (it was still pretty painful though)
I have given up a lot of my vices to save money (pedicures, movie night, the good shampoo)

When I was an undergrad in my second year, I gave up being a chemistry major because I'd gone through the first of three major calculus classes three times and never done better than a D--unless you consider a Withdraw better. I decided it was time to go into something with a lot less math in it.

it's easier to try to think of things that you can hope for that are realistic. I know it's not much comfort for someone to tell you to "look on the sunny side" but it might help, although sometimes it's annoying to try to find "the sunny side" when you are going through a lot of stuff.

My 4 year old is going through a similar time of giving up on stuff, it's probably not as serious as what you are going through, but it's difficult for her to go through alone, if you need someone to talk to you can TG me. I will try to keep my cheesy advice to a minimum.

Thanks for the offer... but I think I'll pass. I've talked about it so much I barely know my own thoughts any more.

When I turned 15 ( and it went on till I was about 16 ) I did drugs, drank like a madman, and slept around.

Then it hit me what I was doing to my 20 year plan, and how much muscle mass I had lost, and a bunch of other things smacked me in the forehead when I decided I needed to move back to the US, and continue with the 20 year plan.

I rather think the term "tedium" is evoked in the above. The voctory of Romanticism is now complete.

I never give up, per se, more "change". Which is a different matter, i think.
