This should annoy the States Rights people.

Awhile back, people got tired of getting the screwover by HMO's as they would do stuff like drop coverage of long term aflictions like say Insoulin.

So 41 states state down and told the industry ok you can do business here but you have to honor a laundry list of things.

It ranged from things like: Insoulin, Contraceptives(the pill), and for actions such as women declaring their ob/gyn as primary care givers.

The HIMMAA bill introuduced by Mike Enzi (R-Wy) basically give insurance companies the right to ignore nearly all state laws that require coverage for certain treatments or conditions.

Shrubby thinks this is a great idea.

Some expected changes: Contraceptives could be removed from plans, women would have to be screened by their primary care doctor before seeing an ob/gyn, coverage for annual cervical cancer exams, and not allow women to stay with the same doctor throughout a pregnancy if the doctor was dropped by the insurance provider(We actually ran into this law with my daughter. My wife was about a week before she was due and a couple doctor groups decided to align and negotiate. The insurence company didn't like it so they dropped them from the plan. The law made them let us keep our doctor until after the birth).

Under the call of "making it affordable" it could very well end up with a cheap plan that does not cover much. As I heard the radio guy say. Corporations will leap all over these "affordable" plans to increase their profit margins. Employees could very will be left with a plan that really doesn't cover much. What good is a plan that may cover insoulin but does not cover needles. What good is a plan that covers hospitol stays but only pays 200-300 a day?

This sounds really scary especially if you are dealing with kids, aging parents or even somebody with a disease.

Anybody that has more detailed info, please feel free to add and or correct anything.....

America is already getting fucked in the ass by the shitty, laissez faire healthcare set up. Anything that furthers the power of the insurance companies is bad, the end.
